:DHi all...New to the forum so be gentle!

Ive recently purchased a black Audi 2.0TDI S line in black and am thinking of changing the heated door mirror covers that are now colour coded black to the S4 style chrome/silver ones.

What i want to know is if anyone can point me in the right direction of where to get the covers from, and also how big of a job it is to do?

Thanks a lot in advance....

a proud Audi owner!:)

Hello and welcome -

I changed mine a while back and got them off e-bay for around £40 second hand. Mine are copies and chrome made by Inpro. Just looked on e-bay now for you and couldn't find any so here's another link http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/ These ones are a straight swap so be carefull as some on e-bay don't fit quite right. It's a simple job to do and should only take you 10mins for each side.

Put you finger down the side of the mirror and pop the glass section out. Then undo the two screws under the mirror housing itself. You then need to prise the colour section off (when you have your replacement ones you will see the clips/tabs for reference) then if I remember rightly there is one screw to the side of the where the mirror clips into. Then slide the black plastic bottom section out and refit your new covers.

It really is easy to do and once you remove the glass you will see what I mean so don't worry.....but just be carefull not to snap any clips!

Congratulations on the car. Sounds nice!

I have an black A6 and and black A4 cabrio, and I've fitted both with the S4/S6 type mirrors. They look particularly good on a black car.

The ones on my 2006 A6 S-Line are not genuine Audi, whereas the ones on my 2008 A4 S-Line cabrio are genuine, and actually came off an S3.

Both sets are the matt-finish aluminium-look mirrors, which the S4/S6 have as standard. I got them from ebay, and paid about £60 for the replicas, and about £90 for the genuine ones. I think I was lucky, as the matt copies normally go for about £100 and I've seen the genuine ones go for £150 or more. Audi charge about £300, which is a joke.

You could try German ebay, as they tend to have more Audi stuff, but you'll pay more postage.

Fitting is easy, and exactly as mentioned above by pjmspeedy. You just need to be careful when taking off the old covers so you don't break the tabs. Putting on the new ones is very simple.

Good luck.

Paul

  • 2 weeks later...

for B6/B7 S4 the mirrors are a semi-matt style aluminium.

the finish is identical to the windscreen frame of a B6/B7 A4/S4 cabriolet

the inpro cheapo chrome mirrors on ebay are very chromey and look silly. they do a matt finish too, but its too mat. only OEM mirrors seem to be the right finish.

your best bet is ebay.de if you dont want to spend £300 on them at a dealer.

Maybe one of our friendly forum members who work at a dealer can sort me out.........;)

I am also looking for chrome covers for my A4 Black Cabriolet. I damaged one of my black mirrors so thought I get the silver ones. Looked on ebay and web and was tempted to buy below, are these NO good. Cannot find any company making OEM ones there is one seller on ebay selleing OEM but £155. Maybe we can help each other. Let me know how you get on on ebay.de.

I looked athttp://www.wingmirrorman.co.uk/ for a replacement black one - the company sprays to spec. Is this the best place for a Black one if I have to go for this?

Hi satish98,

Welcome to TSN !.

Its only one for me really re my car and thats OEM. so in that case I will have to hold out for a genuine set.

As for yourself it depends if you want OEM, copies and crucially what your budget is. This Audi game aint cheap as I've experienced since owning my car and also being a member on here but the enjoyment you get from it is second to none.

I've just spent £400 on two new Michelin PS2's so far this year and thats just for starters ! :roflmao:

Enjoy !

Hi

Thanks, useful forum for audi discussion

"Its only one for me really re my car and thats OEM" - what you mena by this can you not put copies on yours. What is yr view on those in.pro ones from ebay at £60 looks good. To pay over £150 or even £300 would be a no go and may have to just go for a Black one again.

Also looking at the mirror which was damaged, I notice 2 wires with a connector, i assume these are for the heated mirror , which mine does to have or may be the power fold?

Ps mine is 2006 A4 Cabriolet, 2.0 T FSI

Thanks

Hi,

Yes I can put copy parts on my car but my preference is to only fit genuine Audi parts.

If you look at the inpro ones (as chav previously has mentioned) you can tell they are copies with the colouring and finish.

The two wires are for the heating element within the glass.

I agree that the mirror-finish chrome replicas are not as nice as the genuine "S" mirrors, or even as nice as the matt replicas. As mentioned earlier, I have the genuine (S3) mirrors on my 2008 B7 A4 cab, and the In-Pro matt replicas on my A6.

Someone mentioned that the In-Pro replicas are a bit 'too' matt, and I agree - when you compare them to the genuine S3/S4 mirrors (which do in fact match the A4 cabrio windscreen surround perfectly).

HOWEVER, I test-drove an RS4 cabrio last weekend, and I noticed that the mirrors on that car were identical to the matt finish of my replicas...in other words, more matt than the normal S4 mirrors. When I got out of the car, I also noticed that the aluminium windscreen surround was much more matt too - completely different to the normal A4/S4 cabrio surround. I guess the mirrors were more matt so that they matched the windscreen surround. I noticed afterwards that the front grille surround on the RS4 was matt as well.

Personally I prefer the normal look, but this 'more-matt' finish did suit the RS4 quite well.

On the subject of the RS4 - this main dealer, Sprint Blue 2006 car with 8k miles on it is an absolute bargain at £34k. Was very tempted to buy, but my money is going into other projects at the moment!

One final thing....if I were you I wouldn't pay £300 to Audi for these mirror covers. I've heard so many stories about them being stolen (resulting in significant damage to the car) that I was worried about paying £90 for my genuine ones, let alone £300....

In response to the post above - the first set look good, if a little expensive.

The 2nd set I'd steer clear of because:

1) They are chrome mirror finish, which are not genuine Audi, becuase Audi mirrors are matt.

2) The Audi genuine mirrors for the B7 or equivalent are plastic, not metal.

Metal was used on the older "S" cars, but binned because they pitted very badly with stone chips. These OEM original ones wouldn't fit a B7 anyway.

The first set has gone now.

Pah you stated you bought one set of replica from ebay, can you give the item number / ebay seller so I can try.

I can only see the in.pro ones on ebay now. I cannot believe there are no proper Spares shops selling audi spares

which are like OEM.

The other option I have is to replace just one of my damaged black mirror cases, I had email from wingmirrorman.com and they have stated below, is this OK?

The item supplied is of O.E quality same standard as a main dealer product.

A 12 month guarantee comes with all products inc painting.

B7 S4 mirrors are aluminium. Only the Rs4 has the cheapo (in quality not price) plastic ones.

I have a brand new complete drivers side mirror (no glass) that I believe is for an S4. It is the aluminium one not plastic. It has a small mark in the top of the casing. PM me if you want pictures. Part number 8E2 858 500B. Open to offers if it is of any interest to anyone. I know it is only one side but it is a start.

Hi Pah, you mention the i.pro one are Matt and seem to go ok on your Audi . I was looking at the frame on my a4 cab and it is a chrome mat type finished.

As I cannot find any mirrors elsewhere I am getting tempted to but the in.pro ones from ebay. I've had email from the seller and he stated he sold hundreds and no complaints.

Are you sure the S4 ones are aluminuim? I know the RS4 ones are plastic, but I think the S4 ones are too. Mine are genuine S3 mirrors (I know they are genuine, as I know the car they are from), and they are definitely plastic, but metal plated. They look and feel like they are metal, but aren't. I'd be surprised if the S3 ones are different to the S4.

Pah you stated you bought one set of replica from ebay, can you give the item number / ebay seller so I can try.

I'm afraid it was ages ago (last spring) when I got these, and I don't seem to be able to get the sellers details anymore. I've had a look through my own feedback to see if I could find out from that, but it doesn't show the item details from that long ago, and I can't remember who I got them from. Sorry mate.

I can only see the in.pro ones on ebay now. I cannot believe there are no proper Spares shops selling audi spares

In.pro do have a good reputation for accessories - to be honest, if I was you I'd go for a set of theirs - just make sure you get the matt ones and not the chrome ones. Even if they are not exactly the same as the OEM ones, they still look good, and to be honest no-one would be able to tell at a glanve that they aren't OEM ones. I'm also surprised there are not more sellers for this sort of thing...these mirrors seem really popilar, and all the auctions go really well...someone could make a fortune!!

The other option I have is to replace just one of my damaged black mirror cases...

If you decide to go down this route, I could always dig out my old ones from the garage....I have Phantom Black (metalic) ones off the A6 and two Brilliant Black ones of the A4 - I think they are still in OK condition (assuming my wife has not chucked them somewhere)....make me an offer if you like. I still think you should go for the S4/RS4 look though - I think it makes a real difference.

Pic below of my cars, before I got the S3 mirrors for the A4:
