Rear washer pipe disconnected (not in the tailgate)

After the recent cold weather my rear wash wipe stopped working as it did last year. I presumed the pipe in the tailgate had popped off again. However I had the tailgate trim off at the weekend and the pipe is still attached so I tried the washer for a few seconds to check the the pump was working (it is) and found a puddle of water by the passenger side front wheel. Looks the the pipe has popped off the other end this year.

The source of the pump noise and the water seems to be under the washer reservoir but I can't see any pipes or indeed the pump. I'm hoping it's not inside the wing. Has anyone had this problem and found out where the pipes are?

I had this problem. You have to take off the wheel and peel away the top part of the wheel arch liner (6xTorx bolts plus one 10mm nut). There is a join in the pipe below the top of the wheel arch. I was able to pop mine back on. Test thoroughly before you refit, in case it pops off again.

Steve, that picture is identical to what greeted me when I pulled back the wheel arch liner!

Unfortunately, when I connected it back up water still doesn't get to the rear wiper. I can hear the pump and strangely there's a small trickle of water from the front washer jets so I think there's a blockage in the line which caused that join to pop apart in the first place. I checked for grit in the rear washer nozzles (that's happened before!) but it looks clear.

I'm not sure what to do next, get the garage to push some pressured air through the system ???

When you were testing (after reconnecting pipe), did you pull off the jets/nozzle to identify if partly blocked jets is the problem? When I reconnected mine, I still only got a dribble out of the jets but a powerful spurt came out when I pulled off the little black plastic piece housing the two jets. That told me that the jets were blocked. Some kettle descaler and a pin were applied until clear, then when refitted, everything was shipshape and I got a nice spray onto the back windscreen.

Steve, you're spot again! I washed the car on Sunday afternoon and since it's the first time I had been able to do it since November I gave it a blast with the pressure washer and gave the nozzles a direct blast for a few seconds. Lo and behold on Monday they're working again.

They're maybe not quite as fine a spray as they were so I'll check if they're clear with a pin.

Great stuff, Pete! Hope it stays working now.

I appreciate your sharing this information. I have the same issue. It is a good thing your description is spot on as I am not very handy. My mate did it for me last time. Anyway, thanks. I'll be adding this page to me bookmarks that's for sure.
