Audi A8 D3 3.0 Tdi Quattro with 75800 miles (122000km) has just put its Check Engine Light on. It's running fine other than that.

and loads of these -

02277 - Quiescent Current Stage 6

000 - - - Intermittent

I suspect those at the end are because my battery is close to EOL as it goes down to 10% after sitting for an hour with ignition off but radio on.

Googling suggests the Intake Manifold Runner ones are probably due to the linkage going slack between the motor and the flap. Are there any cheap and easy fixes for this one?

Thanks

I've just ordered a pair of these.

Inlet / Intake Manifold Swirl Flap Repair Kit Audi VW 2.7 3.0 Tdi V6 Q7 A4 A5... | eBay

People say that the flap and its hinge can get gummed up, but given this error is so intermittent for me, I think it's more likely just this actuator. Anyway, I might get them for this weekend so can spend a chilly day in our garage!

Yeah, was a bout to say 'swirl flaps'!

Grab the PDF and it would be good to shove it on this thread if you would be so kind............

So far, mine isn't reporting any issues, but I've read elsewhere that cleaning it usually helps, as does fitting some washers somewhere or other?

My battery sits at 10% too, not sure if it's the battery or if it's the software - as many reports say the software isn't good at reporting battery life and later versions of the MMI don't have that feature?

The PDF is regards removing manifolds, which isn't usually required. I'd post but it's probably copyright someone or other, though two different ebay vendors sent me the very same document so I suspect it's already seen as open source!

As for swirl flaps being required, I'm not sure. BMW owners seem to remove the ASAP before the fall to bits and eat turbos, but the Audi ones just seem to throw error codes. I can cope with the odd code with CEL is annoying so I'll fix it.

OK, job done. The new parts are much better made than the Audi ones and the fault codes have gone. Let's hope they stay that way!

The job is a doddle on the near side and a bit of a b1tch on the offside. For the latter, access is very limited and removing and refitting the clip is *much* harder as it's upside down. A few cloths rammed into gaps to prevent dropped bits heading south and lots of patience is all the advice I can really give. Removing a section of intake would have helped a little. but one end was reluctant and I didn't want to risk damaging it.

Next problem - battery goes from 100% to 10% in just a few minutes of using the vagcom lead, which suggests that that too needs swapping. I'll probably get someone to do that to save all the hassle of losing settings and coding in the new one.
