It's really hotting up in Volkswagen Golf land...

new rumours........ Golf GTI Edition 40 to arrive next year sporting 261bhp as standard with a 10% over-boost function... so possibly over 280bhp max.

Changes would include revised body work/aero pack, unique alloy wheels/interior in the traditional "Edition" theme like previous "Edition" models.

the Golf GTI Clubsport is going to be unveiled tomorrow at the anual Worthersee Festival which is in essense supposed to be the Edition 40 which is to follow in 2016.

Just wonder whether the Golf at the age of 40 will have issues with it's Prostate, bad knees, shot hips and the expensive outlays of a messy Divorce and two young kids to pay child support for !!!  :P

I am getting really excited about this car and the Golf R420.....

This might be the more fun option if they include the Performance Pack Brakes and e-Diff (VAG) too.

I am not sure about Volkswagen having 18" wheels as standard, this they should fit unique 19" alloys instead along with gloss black trim for the rear spoiler, rear diffuser, roof, side skirts, miror housings and front grill / spoiler etc.

As long as they offer a 5 door option like the Golf R420.... choices choices....

Can't wait! :)

Knees, Prostate and Hips should still be going strong, but odds on with the messy divorce..

It is just another Golf. Your Golf is a fine car. Save the money and keep it.

Special editions would be better labelled "mug marketing machines". That's all they are.

I know but a little extra performance is nice plus 5 doors :)

Really liking the design, lets hope the production version looks the same. +++

:)

It won't have a stance anything like in those pictures, the wheels will be smaller, the tyres will have a higher sidewall and the arch gap will be bigger, it looks fantastic in those pictures, but the reality won't be quite the same, otherwise I think it looks good.

How much more expensive is it over a 'normal' Gti with performance pack? (I think the performance pack is also a joke really, it's what the Gti should be as standard).

Personally, of all the Gti's I think the standard Gti is the best value for money, I can't really see why you'd want much more than that in a Golf, it is still a Golf at the end of the day, not a sports car.

Official Volkswagen Press Release

"World premiere of the Golf GTI Clubsport at Lake Wörthersee

Exclusive anniversary model for 40th birthday of the GTI

Golf GTI Clubsport debuts with 265 PS and boost function

Next year, the Golf GTI celebrates its 40th birthday. Volkswagen is marking this historic event with a progressive anniversary model: the new Golf GTI Clubsport. Volkswagen will be showcasing the Golf GTI Clubsport on 14th May as part of the legendary GTI meet at Lake Wörthersee, when it will make its world premiere in the form of a near-production concept car.

With a power output of 195 kW / 265 PS (35 PS more than the Golf GTI Performance) and top performance temporarily increased by around a further 10 per cent thanks to a boost function, the Golf GTI Clubsport is set to take off at the start of 2016 as the most powerful production 'GTI' yet. The anniversary model is being launched not only with an extremely powerful engine, but also with an individualised interior and exclusive bodywork details.

The design modifications include a completely new front bumper, new side sills, a new and aerodynamically highly innovative roof-edge spoiler and a specially developed rear diffuser. All of these features were designed with the aim of further enhancing the GTI's performance and of thereby bringing form and function into perfect harmony. The interplay of the very high power output thanks to the boost function and significantly improved levels of downforce move the Golf GTI Clubsport into the realms of motorsport driving dynamics. Consequently, handling remains extremely stable even at very high speeds. Breath-taking cornering speeds are also possible. The new Golf GTI Clubsport thus makes a great case for itself as unadulterated sports car."

Already really enthusiastic about this version!

The cars they preview at Wörthersee are never, ever anything like the spec of the cars they release.  The engine is the same as the Leon Cupra lump - bigger turbo than current GTI.  There will be some bolt-on plastic bits, different wheels and that'll be it.  Still be a decent looking car - I really like the current Mk7 GTI and GTD - dark grey metallic.  Lush :)
