rockstar
Hi,contemplating changing the sport 3 spoke leather steering wheel to the 3 spoke s-line punched steering wheel? one on ebay is without an airbag...will my airbag fit into this as a straight swop and if so how easy is it to do and change the wheels? thanks... techieboy
I'm told it is relatively easy. I've got a brand new 3 spoke S-Line "punched" leather steering wheel you can have £75, if you want. I bought it to fit in my B6 along with some other bits and pieces. Never got around to fitting it as I ended up ordering a new B7 instead. I'll grab some pictures of it tomorrow, if you're interested. Matt
rockstar
very ..very interested! !! do you think i will be able to transfer my airbag into and fit it easily enough then!? let me know how you want to sort this out, will defiantly buy it! techieboy
It's tucked safely away in the boot of the car at the moment and the missus is out in it, at the moment. I'll post a pic and the part number in the morning, but it's definitely an 8E0 part number for the B6 A4. I didn't get around to fitting it because I needed to buy an airbag for it as I have a 4 spoke steering wheel in my car. I was told it was a direct swap on a car with an existing 3 spoke wheel. Might be worth checking the part number with NelsonA4Sline to be sure. Lovely wheel though. Almost wish I could fit in my new B7 S-line special edition. Lynas
You see, I'd change mine, but I'm always weary that it would never sit smack bang in the centre again!!
Mitchet
If you do change your steering wheel, don't disconnect any cables (apart from the airbag one). Otherwise you'll have steering wheel angle errors, which in turn can affect the traction control system. (I had this problem when I fitted cruise control - the ABS system couldn't be coded and had to put my hands up and go to the stealers). I'm keeping an eye out for an S-Line wheel with the paddles though... that would be sweet!

Lynas
Does look easy..!! Like the way they cut the tape when he struggles to get the airbag cable off.!!
MatP
It is very easy. The ElasWin software is a great help. I changed my dashboard with the aid of it.

MatP
Mine is a spline bit, not a torx!!
Mitchet
True, a spline tool from Audi is the correct one to use... but I'd rather pay a couple of quid for the T55, which fits perfectly. I got my T55 bit from Halfrauds (£2 or something like that), it's not a screwdriver bit, it's for a 1/2 inch driver (socket bit).

[/ QUOTE ] Result. Royal Mail working efficiently for once. Good find on that video, I might have been tempted to cough up a £150 to get the 3-spoke airbag if I seen how easy it was to do, instead of sitting there thinking about it and bottling out! As Lynas said, it'll be good to see it once it's fitted. Good luck Matt
