  1. you worry me Mook when you say that, It was VW who sent me to have my timing chain checked. They said if the angle exceeds 8 degrees then your chain has stretched and needs changing. Mine were 4 degrees on inlet and 5 degrees on exhaust cam which they said was normal. Interestingly I'm having it checked again tomorrow as it has been over a year since the last check.

That is something that I have to discuss in detail with the fitting station, although there isn't many options, in the spare wheel well or bloody great tank in boot. So if we rule out bloody great tank in boot. My thinking at the moment is remove kit in spare wheel well, allow them to fit tank in there and allow them to raise it a few inches above boot floor, (this depends on capacity of tank that will fit in there) Raise boot floor by those few inches by filling in the area around tank with that thick/compacted foam/sponge into which can be cutout areas for the various tools.??? Fit LPG connector behind number plate. I am only thinking about it, if it can't be done neatly/discreetly exactly the way I want it then it will be a no go project.

ok perhaps I misunderstood your comments, no harm done. I am absolutely assured that there will be no more than a 1 to 2 % drop in performance, which I doubt would be noticeable. The car is used by my wife who probably wouldn't notice a 20% drop. It wasn't bought for it's performance. I bought it for looks, interior, ease of driving and the fact that they are quite rare. I should add that when this crunch is over it won't be long till the fuel prices go through the roof again. Maybe LPG will be a big selling point???? Only time will tell

To suggest that I'm doing this because I can't afford the fuel is a very very narrow minded point of view and barely warrents this reply. As for it being built for thrashing why would LPG stop you doing that.

    Name

I just noticed that under my name it says Citron C1 GT. How did that get there, never owned one in my life. How do I get rid of it.

    Sat nav q

Come on people, sat nav nerds, I'm interested as well.
  7. Thanks for the quick reply, I can't believe the clutch would be so worn as to have nackered the duel mass flywheel as well. I hope for the sake of your pocket that it's ok. Cheers Henry
  8. If you don't mind me asking how much is the new clutch fitted and how does that compare with the standard clutch price. I've just passed the 60k mark

Been thinking about having it done, looked at various places and at the moment am favouring Greenfield who fit the BRC system, it's not the cheapest but they offer the most/best info. Including such things as "block it" which is apparently a number of led balls being fitted in the tank and for the R32 engine a system called "flash it" which is a separate reservoir in the engine compartment filled with a valve lub. 1ltr lasts 40k. The reason for these additional items apparently is to protect the R32 engine valves as they are softer??? and without help don't like the slightly higher temperatures of LPG. Any comments/criticisms would be welcomed.
  10. I know what your saying Mook but sometimes when you've had a car for a while and spent a couple of grand on servicing and bits and then the dealers want money of you to take it off your hands,( slight exaggeration) when you were wanting 10k you think to yourself was it really worth those stamps.
  11. I'm amazed how many people complain bitterly about the poor service and high prices that VW charge, about their inability to put things right etc etc and yet insist on taking their cars there for service and presumably insisting that the next car they buy has a VW service history. Is a VW stamp really worth that much. How many people have ( honestly, hand on heart ) bought a second hand car with dealer stamps and actually phoned the dealers to check if they have worked on the car. You can buy amazingly good kits to replicate anyone's stamps. Just a thought.
  12. I'm amazed that damage like that could happen and your alarm didn't attract someones attention. Hope you have protected NCB and you get an invisible repair.
  13. Got my filter and oil from VW bought the spanner from GSF for around £19.
  14. I can't really understand why it needs a Haldex service at 50k. As far as I know it's oil and filter change every 40k, some people do an extra oil change at 60k. It's not a specialist VW only service any competent independent can do it. I done mine on the driveway last week the oil and filter was around £20. As for the springs can't really help as I have H & R coilovers but H&R or eibach have good reputations and you'll probably get a full set for the price of two VW rears.

    Brakes

One more question, I read somewhere that you have to fit spacers on the front. Is this right. Hope not as I have OZ 19" and could not possibly fit spacers.

    Brakes

I know what your saying about balance, but my current discs and pads have probably only got a few k miles left in them and I don't want to renew them and then wish I had got the bigger stuff. I say this because I modded my E30 M3 by about 140 bhp and then set the standard brakes on fire (literally) first time on a track. I know this car is only lightly modded engine wise but I never know what mods might tempt me in the future.

Another question Mook, when you bought the rear kit for your R32 did it come with calipers and were they the same as you already had. I ask because the blurb on the site says "At last a BBK that retains the original calipers" Why would anyone want to buy a set of calipers the same as they have already have. I'm tempted to get the lot fairly soon because those prices aren't going to last long with present exchange rates.

    cheers for that info Mook.

    Brakes

Cheers for that Mook, had a look, they are expensive. I assume they are very good. Still, you never know what Santa will bring. Although I am tempted by their replacement front disc and the ECS rear.

Mook, am I right in saying that you said that you had a BBK that you were going to sell. Have you still got it and is it still for sale?
  21. I thought the rise in VED didn't kick in untill March next year?
  22. I fitted cruise myself bought bits of VW for £65. It's not difficult but has to be enabled on vag-com so if you haven't got one then that's a real good deal. Do let us know about the ARP map cos I've got one of their outfits about a mile from my house. cheers Henry

    Price Fall

I thought the R was taking a hit but I've just had an e-mail from my local BMW dealer on their review of their preused (like that word) cars. M5 22k was £44995 now £33995. everything is down thousands.
  24. Henry52

    Brakes

I will shortly need some new front pads, can anyone remember which of the BMW's had the same pads fitted as the R for half the price. I might change the discs as well as they have a bit of a lip on them. Anyone know of any drilled/grooved discs that are available. Cheers in advance.

    Alignment

OMG those are expensive, isn't there an OEM part for some other VW or AUDI. Couldn't help noticing that there was an RS4 in before me and they were able to adjust his rear camber?
