Hi all, the diff bearing on my 2007 3.0 TDi Allroad have become very noisy and it's lumping down from six to fifth and fourth to third. So it's not looking good. I haven't rebuilt an gearbox since I had an S8 nine years ago, and remembering back, I'm not keen on repeating the task. Allroad gearboxes seem to be like hens teeth and cost the earth. However A6 3.0 TDi quattro boxes, which are physically the same as an Allroad in every way are available for around a quarter of the price. Does anyone know where I can check the gearing etc to see the differences between a KHC and KJC gearbox? Much appreciation to anyone who's more in the know than me as always. Thanks.

Have got a d2 a8 and am having issues with the gearbox. If the car goes into 4th gear the revs go massively high then it bumps into limp mode. I've had issues with the gearbox before and unfortunately the warranty has run out and they will not help me out. So can anyone recommend a company to use? I'm just off the a3 halfway between guildford and Portsmouth but am quite willing to go a reasonable distance if the company is particularly good. Also I anyone has any ideas what is going on it would be appreciated. I have had the box replaced before and I also had the gearbox ecu inspected and reconditioned but the issue keeps on appearing. Many thanks Peter

Hello all, I have a 2001 A8 4.2 with 88k miles of which I have done 13k since I bought it 2 years ago - pretty much every one of them has been a pleasure....until last Saturday Last week the car needed its MOT which I already knew was going to cost a bit as I needed new discs/pads on the front. In the end it needed calipers as well as the old ones were seized leaving me a £540 bill which was a pain but not the end of the world. At the same time I renewed the tax for another 12 months (Up £30 from last year!) so in the week I spent best part of £800 on it. Having got it back on Friday the 1st time I used it was Saturday when I went to several retail parks, each time I reversed into a space and drove out again. When I got home I started to reverse onto the driveway but had what seemed like clutch slip and little backward motion. Just clear of the road and pavement all movement stopped and that was it - no more reverse movement. Selecting forward gears gives a drop in revs and the takeup of the transmission so I'm confident I have forward gears. My mechanic checked it using his diagnostic computer and no fault codes are showing - the computer identifies which gear is selected including reverse. I had no visual indication of a problem, no funny sounds, no funny smells, no funny driving characteristics. No indication at all of the problem until the point I lost reverse gear - time between the 'clutch slip' and losing reverse was less than a minute during which I probably moved 5 yards backwards. On the basis of a phone call a local auto specialist has suggested that a gearbox brake (?) may have gone but added "If we are stripping it anyway we would advise that we recon it at the same time otherwise something else may go". They then suggested that this would cost a minimum of £2200+VAT. To repair the broken part is going to be at least £1100+VAT but before spending that sort of cash I thought I would post here to see if anybody has any other suggestions - the thought of spending best part of £3k on a car that's probably not worth much more than £4k when working isn't a good one! According to the documentation the gearbox is given as EUS FBE if that means anything at all?

Hi all. I bought a 2001 3.7 A8 with 80,000 on the clock about 5 weeks ago and have no end of problems with the gearbox. A week after getting the car the gearbox went into safe mode, then seized completly. Went back to the garage in croydon that i got it from and he got it transferred to a local gearbox specialist to sort and was in there for around a week. ( they said that 2 cogs were actually welded together) Had a new gearbox installed and about a week later it went again, went back to the gearbox specialists as they had given me a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. 2 weeks on and after countless phone calls chasing them up its still not sorted!! Basicly they re-did the gearbox again, then found that there was somethinig wrong with part of the loom. After sorting that they tried to clear the fault codes off the car so i could have it back, however they couldnt because the car wouldnt let them! They then found that they had forgotten to plug something in so back out came the box again. Sorted that, put it back in and still wouldnt clear the codes so it went across to Audi to be looked at, Audi found that some part that plugs onto the loom ( they did tell me but i cant remember what it was) was faulty and that was why the gearbox was burning out. so got that part and put it in, which meant the box was out again. Now that that is done, yesterday i had them call me and say that while testing the car it was pissing oil out of the gearbox! Reason apparently is the oil pump in the gearbox has to put a manufacturers original part, not a cheaper version. So as it stands now they have ordered the new pump from Audi, which has to come from germany as they have none in the uk and that could take up to 10 days to arrive! So they will have had the car at their garage for longer than i've had it!!! Has anyone ever heard of these problems?? Many Thanks Pete

"I have a '55 plate 1.6 Diesel, has done about 48k miles. Just recently the gearstick started waggling backwards and forwards in 5th gear, when the accelerator was pressed and released. Now it has started jumping out of gear in 5th. It's just out of warranty (obviously!). Has anyone else had this problem?" This was posted a while ago and was wondering if anyone has an answer as mine has started playing up now!! Many thanks
