The car is a 10 Avant and needed over a litre of oil top-up before it's last service and oil change which was in August, I think. Last week it asked for another litre top up (which I haven't yet as I have 502.00 oild and it now needs 504.00) but after nagging us for a couple of days the warning went off again. Two questions: Is it nomal for it to be so thirsty? - it's isn't driven hard very much as my wife generally has the kids in the back. Or is there something likely to be wrong with the sensor?

hi all, just joined the site after endless mind numbing googling!! i had oil in my engine coolant tank, and was told by local garage that either my head gasket has gone, or it had gone sometime in the past and been replaced, but the system hadn't been flushed after. so i got a new tank and this has since got oil in. the car is running perfectly, and has been for the three months since i first noticed the oil. i have to keep topping coolant up about once a week. the electric fan kicks in now and again but not all the time, not going above halfway on temp gauge, and absolutely no symptoms of anything wrong.................any suggestions please. thanx. kev

I have recently bought a mk4 2.0 GTI (2001) and the guy who sold it to me said that when you start the car, the 'oil sensor workshop' warning will appear on the trip computer and beep. He said that he hadn’t had the sensor replaced because he had been told that the trip computers can be temperamental and don't like to be messed around with. I don’t know if it's worth replacing the oil sensor if it's going to mess up the trip computer. Has anyone else experienced this problem or know of any issues with the trip computer? Any advice would be much appreciated. Karen
