Waylander
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] BTW did you end up going to Bolton?? [/ QUOTE ] Christ, not even Waylander deserves that... [/ QUOTE ] sadly I did. That being said I have so far resisted any efforts to move there [although I do miss out of free Stamp Duty and stuff] I'm impressed you remembered! jimbutler
I remembered talking to you in the reporting room aes ago, then a vague conversation with a radiologist about who went where. Always useful to know where your contacts end up! Wondering how Sparky is... Jim

Sparky
Hi guys. No results from blood yet, but they feel it's a structural issue with my Sternum - whatever that is. Was told since there's little evidence of blood at the moment I've to go back when there is. They were concerned at the description of frothy blood though. Why would that be? Still ongoing I'm afraid. Was mooted that it could be mild Pneumonia. Apparently it doesn't help with it being so intermittent.
J_C
I've only just seen this thread Fingers crossed mate, I hope it's nothing too serious.
JamesB
Yes, me too. Sorry I haven't posted before. The sternum seems an unlikely source of blood being coughed up tbh (it's the bone at the front of the chest, by the way, sometimes called the breast bone) but I can't imagine they'd mention it for no reason. I guess you can look at the frustration of it being intermittent in a couple of ways - yes, it might make it harder to pin down a diagnosis, but something that comes and goes is generally better than something that stays and/or gets worse. I know what you're going through. I had a period of coughing up blood earlier in the year. It was also intermittent and went on for quite a while. Nobody was ever able to pin down a cause but it stopped on its own in the end. It's upsetting but, considering your age and lifestyle, the odds are very much in your favour that it is nothing too serious. Of course, it is still important to investigate it thoroughly. Good luck with getting to the bottom of things and, if not that, then it just going away. James
Dave
totally agree with James. I find it hard to see how it can be the Sternum as this is just a bone and part of the structure of the skeleton.? Don't forget that there is a very rich blood supply to the lungs and the blood passes in close proximity via alveoli to the surface to allow gaseous exchange. It only takes for a small amount of damage to these areas to allow some blood to leak out. And a little bit of blood can go a long way. I hope it's nothing too serious and they get to the bottom of it soon
Sparky
Yes, that's what they said too - lifestyle no problem, age etc. Intermittant was a good sign and they didn't actually link the blood to the Sternum, but felt it was worth mentioning - they kept focusing on the "frothy" part of my description of the blood. Was annoying that there was no blood the day I went in. Cheers guys
JamesB
Well, frothy is associated with things that you are rather unlikely to have, especially if you have been even half decently examined. So they are probably quite curious about that description.
Sparky
Yes it did throw them. They did seem much more thorough than the GP I saw so I have much more faith in them finding out, but as you said, they also commented that it might sort itself, with it being intermittent. garcon magnifique
At least you're still alive, mate... wondered if you'd been admitted and were holed up somewhere on a drip. I hope they get to the bottom of it - you're beginning to sound like a car that has a rattle that never appears when you take the feckin thing back to the dealer! Sparky
Yes I have, and thanks to you and others for advice and giving me a sense of urgency to get it seen to. They told me off for leaving it so long I have to go back soon though as they weren't ruling things out to do with my lungs etc.
