Look what Autospray Aberdeen did to my Q7 !!

After some kindly person drove into the passenger side of my swirl free Q7 and drove off without any witnesses I had to have it repaired at Esures request at Autospray Aberdeen.

Picked the car up and it looked okay during a dull overcast day in Aberdeen . The next day it was blue skys and full sun and look at the pictures to see what greated me . Looked like they had finished the car with an angle grinder.

After 4 hours with the PC and the help of my friends, Menzerna RD085 , Jeffs Acrylic Prime and Jett and Nattys Paste Wax its now back to its former glory, sorry I don't have any afters photos.

How can they make such a mess of a newly painted door ?

I believe I'm right in saying, you could have got esure involved and had the job redone to your satisfaction, 2 years ago they had my Disco 3 with a dented door loaded with filler at an esure approved bodyshop, I spat my dumby out and got a new panel fitted in the end.

Oh wow!! Thats basically down to the guy using the buffer not really knowing how polish works, how the buffer works and how to get results.

It looks to me like he hasnt worked the polish for long enough and it hasnt broken down. If in the event that polish doesnt break down any further then it needed to be chased with something lighter.

bodyshops can be a joke.

My immaculate S3 recently went in and came out with added swirls and holograms.

A customers 56 plate M5 i saw yesterday though was possibly the worst car i have ever seen and i was pretty speachless!

It recently had a door resprayed at a BMW aproved bodyshop and came out with this!!!

Not only are there some of the worst swirls and micromaring mixed with holograms... but someone has wet sanded the whole car and then not bothered to polish it back up. You can see the high points of the orange peel effect are all mat where the sander has taken the gloss off!!

I've heard from reliable sources that esure are extremely poor when it comes to authorising repairs. I've heard stories where they've demanded (against the bodyshop's wishes to repair fibre glass panels on very expensive machinary. I've also heard reliable stories where they've requested that repairers source 'used' parts. They rarely authorise new panels - prefer to pay labour rates for bodywork to be filled etc even on very new cars!

I wouldn't touch esure with a barge pole - neither would many bodyshops could they find alternative insurance contracts!

I must admit that esure were pretty good . I wanted to use my own bodyshop which was Kinghorn who have a good name locally , but the guy there was going to fill the dent in the door. Esure sent me to Autospray and said to give them a go at quoting and see what I thought. The guy said straight away that they would replace the door so I went with them .

The paint has some up really well after I used the PC but they have sprayed over some dust inside the door handles recess.

The car is going back in for a couple of defects during the repair but I haven't contacted Esure yet as I thought I'd give them a chance to recify first. I don't think Esure will want my business next year anyway !!

The reason I didn't take it back to recify the swirls was because I knew I could do a better job myself.

I was lucky with the Disco as I turned up at the pre arranged time to collect the vehicle, they'd had a problem with the extraction kit in the paint shop so hadn't painted the repair so I was able to see the door in all it's filled glory, it took two weeks of constant calls till they succumbed and fitted a new door. I wouldn't touch esure again for sure grin.gif

I too have heard this, very recently, quietly, from a bodyshop .......

Me thinks e sure best avoided....

Mark, you should have gone to Neil Daniel, as you don't have to go where your insurance tells you to. Went to Neil when my last Audi had the crash he fills out all the paper work and gets quotes and submits them to your insurer, only thing you don't get is a half decent courtesy car, but the work is top notch.

My GTI ended up with driver's side crush damage, and was repaired in Guildford by a VW bodyshop. Originally, they kindly painted my otherwise Tornado Red car a lovely Terracota down the RHS.

Have a look - slightly bad photo as I've zoomed in and cropped. But if you compare the RHS with the bonnet or rear bumper, it's orange! Under bright light, it was just a disaster.

It was completely resprayed after some 2 months of 'debate', and is now back to perfect. Mind you, some sh1t dented the offside rear door the other day, but nothing that Dent Devils can't fix.

I trust just the one bodyshop - Auto Cosmetix in Guildford.

Greetings TT, yes it's been a while! But I have 2 sons under 5, so life is ... hectic! Plus work has been crazy busy, just no time in the evenings to get on the net (but normality is returning!).

You recall correctly - the day before my crash, I had agreed a trade-in of the GTI for a 2.0T Eos. For obvious reasons, the deal fell apart! Still waiting on settlement, so have hung onto the GTI. Have to admit I was seriously annoyed over most of summer due to the respray botch, and nearly offloaded the car in Ireland to a friend. In the end, it was resprayed and came out 100% (and I'm picky), and I started to enjoy it again!

But I've learned a lesson from it all, mainly that buying a car, sticking it in a garage and preening it every week was realistically a bit mad! I feel happier now that it's had a knock, even this week's dent I'm happy knowing can be fixed. I guess I've learned a lesson ....

What I've ended up doing is spending 'car' money on decent holidays with the family, and have to admit that on balance we're getting more pleasure out of that. Maybe I'm getting old ... but no-doubt reading a few TSN posts and seeing what RedRobin is up to will spur me on again!

I guess you've got a point - mine's almost 18 months old and only done 4500 miles blush.gif I must make a point of using it more. I have two girls under 5 and it's much easier just to load them and their baggage into the bigger car which is parked in front of the garage. Just seems hassle to take it out for routine runs!

I realise I could have taken it to anyone to get fixed and Esure didn't have a problem with that . I went to Autospray as they were the only ones quoting for a my door , I didn't want any filler on the car so went with them. The spray job is really good , its what they did afterwards with the buff that was out of order.

Correct, I had a similar incident in Perth with my Merlin Purple A3, insurance approved bodyshop resprayed all except roof, car was riddled with fish eyes, swirls, holograms and very poorly finished. I contacted my Insurance company, they sent an engineer the following day who told the bodyshop, that if I was not happy then they could refinish the whole car or forfeit payment.

2 days later, whole car was perfect.
