Many thanks to djkynz for the gallery - was able to find what I think are a great looking set of alloys

Sweet wheels

So - 3 questions

1. What size will go onto a D3 without modifications - I'm thinking 19's or 20's

2. Whats the best tyre size to fit on that RIM

3. I'm currently running stock 17's - just how much harder (and louder) is the ride going to get for the 20's? - I had an A6 Le Mans as a rental and that was pretty rough and noisy (was on 19's with a 255 profile - but also had the s-line break your back lowered suspension)

thanks for your thoughts

Mark

Bit controversial this but its fair to say that the bigger the wheels the harsher the ride. I personally think putting big wheels on these cars is a bit of a shame really.

That said I have 19" on mine !

I have heard it said many times, and there is a pretty strong case behind this, that anything over 17" adversely affects the ride as does low profile.

Big wheels look fantastic but you have to accept that the cars not going to be as nice to drive.

I go with what you say Alera - I had a Mazda Xedos 6 which came with 195/60/15s and upgraded it to 205/40/17 and regretted it for ever after as the ride became harsh and quite uncomfortable. The '8s are better in that respect but the basic laws of physics apply none the less... Alloy just doesn't compress and deflect like air filled rubber does!

With air suspension it is not that noticeable.

I went from 19's to 20's and with the 275x35 I get a very good comfortable ride.

You have to concur with the ride being effected. It is more taunt, the road lets you know it's condition more intensley and the suspension works harder.

But then I have an S8 and if I wanted confort I would have bought an A8 limo LWB fitted softer springs and never gone near a B Road. wink.gif

As it is, I am more cofident in the twisty bits, faster through long sweeping bends and smiling more.

It's all a matter of taste; and logic takes no account of taste. 169144-ok.gif
