[Audi A3/S3] Central Locking and Interior Light Problem...

I have finally become the proud owner of a Noggy Blue, 2002 S3 after many years of owning a 1.8 A3 :-)

Noticed when I got the car home that the indicator didn't flash when I locked the car, closer inspection found that the alarm diode doesn't flash at all either... Now I know that this means that the alarm doesn't arm if the diode doesn't flash, so bit worried...

Also, the interior light doesn't come on or off when the car is locked or unlocked, even though it is set to the centre position to automatically come on and off... Looking back through the service history noticed that the door catches had been replaced in 2005... When the doors are open the graphic on the DIS shows them as open, and goes out when the doors are closed so it doesn't look like it thinks the doors are still open so will not arm. Also, the car does lock all the doors when the central locking is activated...

Has anyone come across this before and know what it might be...

Cheers,

Carlo

I've got a similar problem on my 1998 A3.

When I lock the car via fob the indicator lights flash fine and the interior diode flashes continuously. Seams fine.

However, the alarm siren has never gone off...when I leave somebody in the car and lock the door, after a while it seams like the alarm wants to go off. The indicator lights flash on the outside and inside you can hear a continuous ticking noise with the hazard switch flashing too.

Looking back at service history there a few fault codes that relate to voltage and sensors...

Any ideas would be appreciated. I've been living with this problem for years and not bothered looking in to it as it doesn't seam to be an easy fix.

My A3 1.6 SE X-Reg has a problem. When you shut the door sometimes the interior lights stay on and when you lock the car with the fob the lights don't flash (and on the DIS the door is shown as open).

There seems to be no plunger type switch to tell the front doors when they are open and when they are shut, like the rear doors, so how does the doors sense when they are open/closed?

as its such an old car, and not under warranty is it worth having a stealer do it? Is it impossible to do yourself?

A colleague did this on his wife's 8L A3. Found that he could adjust the switch that should sense when the door is closed and saved himself the cost of any new parts - just took his time to get the door trim off and get the lock out.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thought I would give you guys an update...

After everyones comments and closing the latch on the lock while the door is open and the alarm actually arming... I decided to replace the door lock on the passenger side...

Got a lock from a breaker for £20 and it took about an hour to replace...

I'm not that car savvy, but was relatively easy to do... BUT... you have to remove the door subframe, which is a bit scary, so the whole window and top frame of the door comes out... So I enlisted the help of a friend who kindly balanced the subframe on their leg while I replaced the lock... Also, make sure that you mark the locations of the four securing bolts otherwise, when you go to attach the subframe, your door will not close... Luckily I used a marker pen to do this before I started!...

Anyways... Problem still there... Now the courtesy lights come on and go off as they should which is a start, so the lock was faulty, but the alarm will now not arm even if I close the catch manually while the door is open... Took it for a service at Awesome GTI at the weekend, and they had a quick look and it seems that the alarm unit cannot be communicated with... So as it's essentially a computer gonna try a re-boot wink.gif by disconnecting the battery for 5 mins or so...

I assume that the system needs reseting after adding a foreign lock into the mix... Will let you know how I get on...
