Golfer
V10 TDI touareg?. I would like to see just what sort of economy these things give. 25 MPG at best as a guess. Anyone.
ahankins
Not owned one, but a VW Service Manager I know had one for a while and it was terrible, mostly single figures.
Tizzy
Good friend has one, and we drove to Dijon in it recently. Best is around 24, easily drops into the teens with a little right foot application. Our average over 800 or so miles was about 21. Summary, it's thirstier than an S4 V8 and nothing like as quick! Is very comfortable though and rides very well on the air-suspension.
beemerboy9
There was a road test in the April 2004 edition of VW Driver. It averaged 23 mpg on test compared to the then-current 3.2 non-FSI V6 which gave 18 mpg. 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. These vehicles sound like fantastic second-hand bargains. beemerboy9
[ QUOTE ] Not owned one, but a VW Service Manager I know had one for a while and it was terrible, mostly single figures. [/ QUOTE ] I can understand the single figures if one is driving it locally and constantly braking and then accelerating 2.5 tonnes plus of automobile. I would rather have the diesel than buy a petrol and add an LPG conversion. I remember reading about an LPG'd A8 that developed a permanent sag in the rear suspension because of the LPG tank. Big, very heavy diesels really only sense on the motorway although they are still better than the petrol equivalents. I don't drive my A8 diesel on short trips at all - nothing under 50 miles - and I'm averaging 31.5 mpg. And believe me, 650Nm of torque is just something else...... I would love to test drive a V10TDi just for the hell of it.
