JonK_UK
Hi All, Really enjoying my 96 A8 -- Ragusa Green and fully loaded, a bargain too, after sorting a few bits and pieces. I am glad it's got the 4 speed auto tiptronic after all the 5speed problems (never had any with a previous 98 A6, I have to say...) However, I notice the 4 speeders are due an oil change at 40,000miles as part of the Audi service schedule, or every 4 years according to my handbook. Does that include the filter? Presume the 4 speeders are not sealed for life and normal AT fluid is fine rather than the gold/green Audi only stuff? Great forum, took sometime finding you! omanized
Also have the 4 speed and no real problems so far...a bit of a bump at low speeds downshifting and I am careful when rolling slow to jump on the pedal - again, a thump between gears. The ATF fluid at one garage here in Oman is asking more than 50$ for a litre of the fluid !! I'll be driving across the UAE border for those I figure. From this and other forums, it seems the clear advice is to change the fluid AND filter s0 I'll be on that next week - the car is at 90,000 kms now so it's a good idea. mike
JonK_UK
Good idea. I think part of the reason the 4 speeders are more robust than the later 5 speed is mainly because fluid changes are forecast every 4 years or 40,000 miles. This is certainly the information I have in my owners handbook.
