Woppum
Would be interesting, however as someone said the R10 sounds like a hairdryer - i think its unlikely.
cruiser647
[ QUOTE ] Hopefully Audi have realised that a bigger engine should be mounted lower when putting the V12 TDi in the R8 - so putting that aside for a moment, if you can get past the revs and noise - it'll be a cracker [/ QUOTE ] A V12 TDi should produce a fine sound! Maybe a slight rattle at idle, but it won't be noticeable. The torque however will be very noticeable. The 4.2 V8 TDi is a very refined unit. Revs? Doesn't matter, the thing will be surging toward the horizon at 2K rpm anyway
DuncS3
plus you get the potential to sell a few ice creams from it too if times get hard

AvantSE
Agree that the diesel in the R8 is a bit odd, but I think it's about time people dropped the 'petrol is king' line - not aimed at anyone in particular, but you've only got to watch Top Gear to see how anti-diesel some people are. S3_Scot
diesel is fine in a daily driver but what's the point in a supercar? its not even cleaner..
Woppum
yep i actually really like desiel power, the torque and the low down power is unbeatable. However in a sportscar????
AvantSE
I wonder if anyone will develop a remap for it...

[/ QUOTE ] I can only assume quite a few of you haven't driven a modern diesel? Yes they sound shite, but they anhiliate comparitive sized petrol engines in terms of performance. By the time the sooty R8 has reached 2000RPM, you won't see which way it's gone. The 0-60 time is a crappy 4.2 seconds only because of the low rev range (which is critical to 0-60 times) I'd assume with 1000NM, that the 30-70 time, 50-70 time, 50-100 time will embarrass a CSL or even a Gallardo! kenny_boon
yeah i think you are right mate. i got such a shock when i drove a 3.0TDI A5, such a difference even from the 2.0TDI's! with that set up the clutch and gearbox will get a hard time! Chav
Looks a bit dull. Shouldn't they bling it up a bit?
shark_90
Don't like the "R8" stitching in the seats (if I'd bought one, I'd know exactly what I was fecking sitting in ) but other than that, that car is pure sex. Surely it can't be that far from production, even though it's labelled as a "concept"?
S3Rob
1000nm through a manual box! Fair enough!!! Hope the clutch is included in the warranty. Awesome car though - don't know how this fits around the RS8 with same bhp, less torque.
S3_Scot
very nice it will do 200+. It will only sound of turbo  It will not be as good in bends/on track this engine should be in the rs6 not the r8 as it is now a GT (IMO)
mark88
Not very classy IMO. Looks like an aftermarket jobby.

garcon magnifique
[ QUOTE ] looks really good and chunky. 4500rpm though in a sports car is simply laughable though... [/ QUOTE ] Funny that, cos I could have sworn the R10 has won the most gruelling sports car challenge the past few years. I do very much like the idea of a car that is the closest we're likely to get to a road going R10. However, apart from the obvious straight line performance, I'm yet to be convinced it'll be as good a car as its V8 petrol sibling. It has a very high bar to try and reach.
