OEM rear LED's for Mk5....

To anyone concerned about condensation after swopping the lenses on these new LED's....

I'm assured that the seals aren't broken in accessing the fog/reverse lenses. Instead of using a hot glue gun, my workshop guy used plastic welding to replace fixings.

Wow :P just caught up with this thread, what a lot of confusion!

I suspect that this has already been hashed out, but just to reiterate: the problem is the lens colours for the fog and the reverse lamps. Just open up the inner units and swap them around. I did mine with a bit of drilling and a hot glue gun (as I don't have a plastic welder). Now it seems that drilling isn't necessary, making life even easier.

Nice lights RR :P

Only problem now is that *everyone* is going to get them! ><

Rumour has it that Golfs may get them standard from the summer, but this rumour has been around for at least 3 years now :P

....You rumbled me, I really didn't want a GTI but I always secretly lusted for a Golf Plus! grin.gif

I've just learnt from a post in another forum that:

"It’s interesting that VW UK gave all their dealers an option last year to offer RHD LED tailights to British drivers. Sadly the majority of the dealerships turned down the idea, so it was dropped... on the continent you can order the LEDs as an extra-cost item. My guy was able to get the Valeo units up on his UK VW database but was unable to get a cost or order them as they were for LHD vehicles. So it nearly happened... shame because my dealer wanted to stock them!"

I bought my LED's more for their functionality rather than purely for their aesthetics. I like the LED appearance though.

As one of the top 5 performing Audi Accessory Centres in the UK last year. I'd just like to point out that the decision to bring in different Accessories from Germany is NOT made by Dealers. It is actually made by Volkswagen/Audi UK. If ONLY it was made by Dealers (!!)

I have had many 'disputes' with Audi over why certain Accessories aren't available to order in the UK. The problem is that the decisions to approve UK Accessories is made in a boardroom in Milton Keynes, by people who have never worked in Dealerships and never bother to ask us what we want to sell and have approved in the UK.

A prime example of how misguided VAG are on Accessories. They'll spend hundreds of thousands of pounds promoting Audi Exclusive (different colour seatbelts, wooow! tongue.gif) and then they will make the decision not to approve an Audi TT luggage net as a UK Accessory. Heres a tip; TT's are meant to be driven fast...

So yes, VW UK were probably offered the chance to have these in RHD format. But again, just shows you how out of touch they are tongue.gif

If you compared the amount of VAG Accessories in the UK to the ones available in Germany. It would blow your mind.

I think it's worth maybe speaking to Hella and see if they offer a UK version through there own range.

However, looking at their website they don't seem a very contactable company tongue.gif

You have to buy a full set of 4 units when ordering the LED's. Personally I'd rather take full advantage of having LED's.

Going back to your quote Robin. The youtube videos show the fog and reverse lights as only looking LED'esque and not actually LED. Although not sure you can confirm that?

I love the outer lights, but not so sure on the inner ones. Makes it look a little Golf Plus as people have previously said. So I'll probably either leave mine or order a kit for the outer ones smile.gif

....I believe that the fog and reverse parts are bulb'd but not their surrounds which are clearly LED's.

Yes, the whole set does look a bit 'bright' and like the Golf Plus but you're going to see more and more cars with this technology on their tails in future and I reckon they'll be standard on the Mk6 if not before.

So what do the outer bits on the LED lights (the clear bit surrounding fog and reverse) actually do? Are they additional brake lights or sidelights?

Some good news for us lot near Dover. These can be bought from French Dealers 169144-ok.gif So you can pick up your lights the same time as picking up your booze 169144-ok.gif

I think the 439 euros must be a fitted price though as they are only have an RRP of 329 euros in Germany?

Looks like you can even order them online in Germany. But VERY unlikely you'll be able to get them sent to the UK.

....I'll have to check and get back to you with a meaningful answer on what the outer bits do.

My VW dealer's affiliated workshop charged me £25 + vat for fitting and also, without being asked, hand washed my car and blacked the tyres!! I am always the 'perfect' customer though - No pressure and friendly and it's Dorset where people seem to have more time. cool.gif
