Hopsta
I've chhipped the side off a tooth which has a filling... never had any trouble with my teeth (apart from that 1 filling) so what's the SP with sort of thing?

Vagabond
Chances are the dentist will want to replace it with a porcelain crown. Thats what i needed when i chipped my front tooth. He basically filed it away to near the gum-line then put the 'new' tooth in with a blob of cement. Lovely!!
bpsmith
Sounds painful, whilst also costing a bob or two for the pleasure!?!
Vagabond
Aye, very painful. About £350 too. OUCH!!! Worst part is, it comes loose from time to time.
Hopsta
is that as a private or NHS ?
Busby
Depends how bad the chip is. If you have just taken a corner off then they will probably take the filling out and re-fill the tooth incorporating rebuilding the side. If you've taken a big chunk out then you are best off having a crown. As the guys said circa £300 to £400 for a porcelain job which would be private - can't get porcelain on the NHS anymore, just gold. If the tooth is a rear molar that can't really be seen then I would suggest going for a gold crown - it's cheaper (£160), lasts longer and is kinder to your mouth. My lower left 8 molar (the very back one) has a gold crown which no-one ever sees and it is very well behaved. Good luck
RedRobin
I've just had the same - A lower front - Gold is longer lasting and stronger than porcelain. I don't have to pay anyway - Got an exempt certificate.
