Chris_B Posted February 1, 2008 Report Share Posted February 1, 2008 Anyone seen, or better yet, driven a C6 allroad on the "all terrain tyres" that were a factory option? How 'off-roady' are they? Are they like the C5 allroad special tyres, where they're a road tyre with a bit of extra tread in the sipes to give it some grip in snow and mud, or are they knobbly like your grandad's knees? What are they like to drive, and how do they affect handling? If they're visually like something you'd see on an old Land Rover, they're probably a bit too 'off-roady' for a soft-roader like the C6, in which case I'd like something that's more of an equivalent to the C5's Pirelli P6 or Wrangler allroad tyres. Dry performance isn't too much of an issue - the allroad's not exactly the machine to go exploring the limits of your driving talents on the edge of grip in, is it? Far more important is wet performance, especially wet lateral grip and braking, and cold/snow performance. Any suggestions? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Uniroyal Rainsports 103Y XL are available in that size for not a bad price. Dunlop SP Sport 9000? Contis? What ones? don't think the 4x4SportContact or WinterContact are in the right sizes. [/ QUOTE ] I'm talking to myself here, but I found Continental ContiWinterContact TS 810 Sport which is available in 245/45R18 100V XL. Will winter tyres wear a lot quicker? It's not a big problem, as it will do quite low miles anyway (I'd be surprised at much over 8k to 10k a year, evebn with me taking the odd drive in it), but it would be nice to know what I'm letting myself in for. I'm looking at winter wheels/tyres for my 535d M Sport for next winter. I can get them for about £1100 on a 17" (the summer wheels/tyres are 19") so after allowing for tyre wear saved on the summer tyres is not that much money really. Well, as the wife will be inheriting the car in about six weeks, and she does very low milage, the wear issue isn't so much of a problem, but having something that's quite robust (high damage resistance) and gives great grip in the cold and wet, is key. [/ QUOTE ] Chris, I've got the 18" off-road tyre option on my allroad as well as the 17" winter tyre option. By default Goodyeat Wrangler AT/R were fitted on the 18" summer rims and Dunlop SP WinterSport 3D winter tyres on the 17" rims. The Goodyear's have quite an aggressive tread pattern but seem ok at high speed and under braking however, they scare me sh!tless when I hit standing water. We get a lot of standing water on the roads over here and although I do off road I will be changing the Goodyear's for Conti's (CSC3 for the summer & CWC's for winter) as soon as they wear out. Nevertheless at normal speeds and with water, snow or mud then they are fine. It's got a Vredestein compact tyre on a small black wheel, and a compressor to inflate it after fitting the spare wheel. Andy_Bangle Posted February 5, 2008 Report Share Posted February 5, 2008 Not sure the full size wheel fits, defo doesn't when plastic undertray is in place as its not deep enough, I got the 18" wheel stuck in it when I tried Perhaps as its got the space saver it has a different undertray as the space saver was an option on my car (its now standard). avantissimo Posted February 7, 2008 Report Share Posted February 7, 2008 I've got an A6 Avant 3.0 TDI Le Mans quattro with the 19" rims. The tyre and wheel combo is quite big being 255 x r19 x 3o. My car has a full size spare and it fits fine. I also have the under tray storage and my spare fits in fine. The issue with the allroad is the tyre profile is bigger making the diameter of the wheel larger. So for exampe, the 19" rims on the allroad come with a tyre size of 255 x r19 x 35. The 35 bit is the significant part as it makes the overall wheel larger. Same on the 18"s too. This why the car comes with a deflated spare as the full size just won't fit. Seems a bit of an afterthought as the car is supposed to be semmi off road and seems a bit of a cop out not having a proper spare. I looked at one before bying the A6 Le Mans. Very close call in the end. The 2 things that swung it for me was there was no full size spare wheel and I couldnt decide on the bumber colour. I didn't quite like the matt colour effect of the bumpers as much as full colur gloss as on the A6. Still, a very, very nice car though. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
