JonK_UK
Still suffering a front end rattle/rumble that indi's and dealers can't seem to lcate. So far, have replaced driver's wheel bearing, tie rod ends, anti roll linkages, track rod arm, discs and pads. Bloody thing is still there. Happens at low speeds over uneven residential roads. Not noticeable at all on the motorway, handling fine, braking excellent. If anything, the sound is less when the brakes are applied, and worse when the ambient temperature is warm. Could it be rattling pads or discs? Stuck where to look next....
Golfer
Front shocker, no doubt.Check springs also.
JonK_UK
Cheers for this, had considered the shocker - but if it was the shock absorber, why does the knocking stop when the brakes are applied?
Golfer
[ QUOTE ] Cheers for this, had considered the shocker - but if it was the shock absorber, why does the knocking stop when the brakes are applied? [/ QUOTE ] If it's the shocker, then when braking it will be under load (compressed) making it less likely to make noise. Then when in cruise mode it's not under constant load and able to rattle away, I do hope this will be the fault, to give you a conclusion.
JonK_UK
Turns out to be rattling front caliper carriers. Have been quoted £340 each !!! to get a repair. Ouch. Will get a second opinion and see if they can be done more cheaply some how.
PsYcHe
Email IT_S8 ([email protected]) and see how much he wants to sort you out with parts. Might be a damn sight cheaper than the stealers anyway.
JonK_UK
Will do thanks. Having done a bit more research, it turns out several VAG oweners have found rattles here if pads installed are not the genuine thing. Will take a trip to my local brake place tomorrow and see what they advise. Rather change the pads to OEM than the whole unit....
