Markallain
I'm going to be needing some new rubber some time this year. Just wondering what to go for. Tempted by the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric which won the Evo 2007 tyre test? These will be the first set of replacements from the original Michelins Pilot Sports. I'd be interested to know what mileage others got out of their originals before having to replace them?
Tonsko
If you drive it hard, the Goodyears won't last long. They grip well, but you pay for it with a softer compound. However, I first bought them years ago on my first Mk2 GTI, not used another make since
Tumbletop
Getting close to the same tyrechange point myself Mark, blooming silly camber these cars have, you don't get your moneys worth out of the rubber! Does anyone have any views of the Vredestein Ultrac or Yokohoma Parada spec-2, which have quite an unusual tread pattern? Bored with the Toyo proxies now, and fancy a change for the next set. They are also £200 cheaper than the PS2's which helps !
mb
I have the Yokos seem pretty OK to me - good all round tyre & seem to be lasting well too lots better than whatever came with the car (Michelin somethings ?)
Decked
Well I stuck new PS2's all round about 2 months ago, as I do fairly regularly, however this time round I've not been as happy. At speed they seem to glide and feel a bit washy over wet roads. As the miles have passed they have got better but I’ll probably get some Yoko's next (Good sticky summer tyres!!!) Strange thing about the PS2's, when I went in to buy them they quoted £193 each... My jaw immediately hit the floor so I said no thanks, then he dug a bit deeper and found 2 types of PS2 with the same spec. 2nd tyre came in at £145, a bit more reasonable. Maybe there was a difference between them but they look the same as my last set.
DavHughes
I'm going for Goodyear Eagle F1s. £101 per corner

[/ QUOTE ] The PS2s are available in regular and extra load both speed rated at Y but load ratings are 88 (560kg per tyre = 2240kg overall car weight) and 92(630kg - 2520kg). R32 is recommended (I think) to have the extra load version as it weighs 1477kg but carries 915kg (US spec car so assume ours are similar weights) of that across the front axle. Maybe you have the regular which would account for the slightly weird sensations due to less sidewall strength.
Sugarj
I've got the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics on my MkIV R32. I cant receommend them highly enough. Terrific in the wet and dry, justifiably won the Evo group test! Very well priced for what they are too.
winrya
I find the F1 GSD3's wore really well on my gti, lasted 2,000 miles longer than the contis that came on it. I've just put asymetricals on the front and they are fantastic, loads of grip, really quiet and seem to ride alot smoother than the old f1's
TheNewMe
I must agree with Decked re the PS2s. I've got 4 used PS2s sitting in my lounge as I type. They were only on the car for a month but I've now got brand new Continental 'ContiSportContact 3' all around and honestly I cannot tell you how absolutely fantastic they are. The sidewalls are a lot stiffer than the PS2's and you can check this yourself when you visit the tyre shop. Place your hand inside the new tyres and, using your index finger, prod then push the inside of the sidewall outwards. You immediately notice that the PS2 has a softer sidewall than the Contis. I'm not saying the PS2 is a bad tyre (it cannot be as it's the OEM for the 911 Turbo as well as the new M3) but my R seems happier and more comfortable with the Contis. The sensation that I experienced during the short period I used the PS2 is apparently down to the new design of having the sidewall 'squash' in order to maximise the contact patch with the road during fast cornering. I have no doubt it works but it does take some getting used to. They are certainly different from the MKIV OEM Pilot Sport. Having said all that, if anybody would like 4 nearly new PS2s, I'll let mine go for £300. I keep meaning to stick them on eBay but still haven't got round to doing it. They were used for a month and I'm happy for you to inspect them until you're thoroughly satisfied. TNM
