Dave
BBC News [ QUOTE ] Microsoft has decided to stop making the HD DVD add-on for its Xbox 360 games console after Toshiba abandoned the high definition DVD format. [/ QUOTE ] You'd have to be pretty pissed off if you'd invested in one already.
Sparky
MS have said there are no plans to launch a BluRay player for the 360 too.
Dave
I'm not too sure that Sony would supply them with the information and parts necessary for it.
Sparky
They would, as it's not just Sony who'll make the BD drives. The specification is available to anyone who pays the licence fee. MS just don't want BR.
Waylander
That just seems a stupid move IMO especially when "all in one" media centres are becominig more prominent.
Dave
Maybe MS feel it can be dealt with via download?

Dave
Rather than people buying DVD's they would download movies to hard drive.
Waylander
aaah got you, old fruity. Perhaps...but seems a wild departure for them without [currently] hardware or software to facvilitate this [ie so that you HAVE to have said soft/hardware and pay Redmond for ti]? Dave
I think download is the future.. why would people want ot fill up their living rooms with silver discs (maybe blue now ) when they could just have huge hard drive systems. Waylander
tbh I certainly agree it is but d/l full hidef movies with all the candy of the retail package will be huge and slow to the point of pointlessness with most "family" BB connections and MS don't tend for the niche market I would have thought. Mind you if this is what it takes to kick BT up the ar5e...
Sponge
I'd love to download HD movies via XBL. Unfortunately the ISPs (Virgin Media for example) have other ideas about how we should use our connections, e.g. traffic management. Furthermore, you don't actually get a copy of the film. You're only renting it and you have to watch it within 24hrs (once you've started it) and then it's gone!
