ChadW
Bit of a longshot but my laptop has vista on it. Would VAG COM run ok? Also for a 2002 52 reg. 225 TT Coupe what version and lead would I need to aquire? Thanks
techieboy
The current version (704) certainly runs on Vista, not sure about earlier versions. If you have a genuine cable you should be able to download and install the current version. RossTech website

Paul
The minimum lead you will need for your TT is the KEY range. personally i would recommend the HEX + CAN range as they are more future proof for newer vehicals you may change to that need CAN. Once you have decided between these then its just a matter of USB or Serial versions. USB being the safer choice as Serial ports are fast disappearing from laptops. ChadW
Hi ordered one that is compatable with VAGCOM 409.1, can be made to work under vista too if needed using xp mode, not sure whether it is KEY or not just know that it should work as it has a 16 pin conenctor for the car interface itself. Cost £14 all in.

PetrolDave
If you look at the Ross-Tech website it lists which versions of VAG-COM are Vista compatible. I'm pretty certain that 409.1 is NOT Vista compatible.
ChadW
True it states the current 7.x is but people on the TT forum say they have run ver.409.1 in XP compatability mode with no probs. will have to see I guess.

Yeah version 409.1 will run, mine kept crashing using vista so went to XP compatability however still crashed, changed to good ole Windows 98/ME compatability and jobs a good one, you will need to go in computer manager and maybe change your com port for this device to com2 , then use com2 in the software and this should get com's - my vista setup the cable device as com7 however the software only does com1-4. A4Ade
If you're still having problems, I use 409 with Vista - never used XP (or any other) compatibility mode, but DO have to "Run as Administrator". Works fine then for me...
ChadW
Ok remembered I still had this cable and with current ABS and ESP light issues thought it best to get it out and try again. Got it set to COM3 and run a test, it comes back saying Passthru test ok. So select AutoScan, select Audi TT in chasis and press Start, all addresses are looked at in turn but nothing actually comes back, get timing counters thats all. If it works then I assume you a list of the results come up straight away in the right hand screen? On mine nothing comes back? Am I doing something totally wrong or is the VAGCOM test telling me lies and my cable is faulty? Edited August 13, 2008 by ChadW
A4Ade
A couple of things I can think of off the top of my head: 1) Is your ignition on? 2) If you a re choosing COM3 have you checked that the cable is on COM3 in Device Manager? 3) Is your VagCom licensed (paid for)? If not, Autoscan wont work - you have to scan the modules individually (even my fully licensed VagCom wont Autoscan some cars for some reason - will do an A4, wont do an S3, for example). 4) If you have Vista, have you run VagCom "as an administrator"? ChadW
Thanks for the tips. Thinking no.3 is odds on to being the most appropiate answer in this case. Cheers
PetrolDave
even my fully licensed VagCom wont Autoscan some cars for some reason - will do an A4, wont do an S3, for example What cable do you have? On the B6 A4 all of the module diagnostic connections are on the K-line (on the B7 some are on the K-line and some on the CAN bus), but the 8P A3/S3 don't have a K-line so all diagnostics is via CAN bus - so if you don't have either a HEX-COM+CAN or HEX-USB+CAN cable then your cable won't work on an 8P. Thanks, I'm know my (3rd party) cable wont work with CAN bus cars, but the S3 in question is an 8L which (I think) should be fine - I can certainly scan the modules individually no problem. Only on trying an AutoScan does VagCom crash, yet on my A4 it Autoscans fine. Cheers, Ade
PetrolDave
the S3 in question is an 8L which (I think) should be fine It should. Since you only said S3 I thought it worth mentioning the CAN bus issue. No idea why you can autoscan on an A4 but not an 8L S3 .... What version of VAG-COM are you using? Have you reported the problem to Ross-Tech? If you're a registered user they will help all they can.
