N3WOB
Been eyeing up a few options, and came across the D3. Anyone had a ride, be interested in views including ownership prospects
Alastair_A3
I really like them Only thing is you have to pay extra for options, so best to find a used example.
Calm Chris
They look good, have 210 bhp from the 2.0d unit and seem to hold value. PH has a few (or did), look at £23k for a 1 year 10k miles car. I think the Alpina £500 sticker option is poo and looks so last decade.
garcon magnifique
Drives really nicely, plenty of punch from the diesel engine, and I think the Alpina mods look great on the saloon. (But best without the Alpina stickers...) You might struggle to get a dealer example for £23k though... very few out there and mostly holding up higher than that. You're unlikely to find any with leather or nav.
gizze
The new D3 is out any day, using the twin turbo from the 123d and now with the Alpina switchtronic box too.

[/ QUOTE ] Oooh... Switchtronic only or also available as a manual? The 323d engine is an absolute cracker. It'll be better still with Alpina having breathed on it. Calm Chris
So the new one will be 230 odd bhp, 40 mpg and hopefully a sub 7 sec 60. Any hard facts on the spec / performance?
gizze
Yeah, not that much better on paper. Hold on.
gizze
http://www.theALPINAregister.com/news/2938 Other Key points Brakes up from the D3 to D3 Bi-Turbo 300mm/300mm fr/rr to 330mm/336mm The engine`s radiator has been increased in size for greater cooling, D3 to D3 Bi-Turbo The manual gearbox is up from the ZF SG6 - 37 to the ZF SG6 - 53 ( the `37` and `53` refering to kg*m of torque) The SWITCH-TRONIC box is straight out of the B3, and loosely based on the 6HP19 TU, with an extra planetary plate and different flywheel for the 100millisec up-shifts in spite of the torque. All driveshafts, the prop-shaft and two half-shafts, have been up-rated for more torque through-put All software is new, with no take-over from D3 to D3 Bi-Turbo Straight exhaust with no rear box, akin to a race exhaust. Meaning better sound and increased throughput, allowing the new D3 to rev to 5,200 rpm.
tinka
im amazed at how fast diesel technology is moving at the moment, ive said this before, but 211bhp from the d3 bt is more than the cosworth's a few years ago,no one would of believed it then, that a diesel would be more powerful than a cosworth. Maxyboy
Anyone know what kind of price one of these were new? Ignore this part, 27k new. Plus would a run of the mill bmw dealership be able to handle enquires over a new one, in the form of a 123d? and this part probably, only available in coupe form at moment. great this internet thing for information eh? haha
edo
I like the D3 mechanically, but I am not a fan of the Alpina styling/wheels/interior mods.
