Dave
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mri_scan basically you lie on a bed, and this huge machine scans up and down your body and sort of maps it. It's all very clever science involving nuclear magnetic resonance.
DHA
How noisy is it? And I don't generally need to find my cock, ladies do that for me.
Dave
I've not had it done, but my father has. He said that it's a bit strange with this machine buzzing over you and turning, but it's not too bad. A bit unnerving at first is how he put it. I hope it's not for anything too serious
oneforsorrow
I've had a fair few. The most painful was when they piped Shania Twain into my head for 30mins to drown out the banging - the MRI noise would have been less nausiating. It doesn't hurt, don't wear anything metal and stay as still as possible. The pics are way cooler than CT!
farmerpalmer
don't wear anything metal and stay as still as possible. QUOTE] So this means you will have to remove your prince albert metalwork & nipple piercings. The big doughnut thing can be a bit claustrophobic, and if you are a really large fella, you may not actually fit in it (body size you understand -not prince albert). steve2
It does bang a bit but not really a problem and you get a lovely set of pictures+++
bazza_g
don't wear anything metal and stay as still as possible. What if you've got metal in you? Does that rule you out of an MRI scan?
oneforsorrow
Dunno, I suppose it depends on how it reacts to magnetic fields. Was also told no deodorant, fragrance or makeup but maybe that's because hospital staff like a laugh?
bazza_g
Interesting, I have some metal in my head and we're not talking fillings

DHA
Have read on the internet they ask if you have any metal in you...not that I know of! Got it at 11 tomorrow morning
shark_90
Dead straight forward but can be a bit claustrophobic. They do make a racket though. You can't feel anything other than the vibrations of the machine. You have to stay dead still and remove any metal so try not to wear jeans or a belt as taking them down and pulling them back up again while laying on the table can be a pain in the arse. Sometimes they need to put a line into your arm to inject a chemical that will show up better but that depends on what the scan is for and what they are looking for etc. Hope everything's ok

Waylander
apologies I was away during this thread. not much to add [after the event] anyway. So how did it go?
DHA
Didn't have the scan that day. Was in with the neurologist for almost an hour chatting doing various tests. Am due for an MRI at some point but also some neurophysiological tests as well to see if my nervous system is working ok. I think they are a little stumped as to what it might be, the initial diagnosis had symptoms which should have subsided by now.
