US rear light clusters

I've noticed on photos that US rear light clusters on D2 A8's look redder where the indicators are than on UK models. Is it an optical illusion or are the US clusters different? The UK clusters look a bit pink due to being partially clear to allow the amber indicator to show through.

But Maybe..... :)

The indicators actualy have white bulbs within green lenses inside the lit red lense. Green + red = amber. If a darker red lens were available there would be a nice opportunity to do a Green LED mod I have been thinking about and have the fogs, rear, brake and indicator use all of the available lense width by using a mix of colours and increasing MCD. If they are indeed a darker red I would be interested in importing a set.

The facelift rear tail lights are red, where the pre facelift in the states had orange in them as shown in my 97 above.

What colour do they illuminate?

Just looked at some facelift UK cars and they have the 'pink' rear lights. Gotta say I think the red US ones look much better.

I just took some pictures of my car, they are red in look, red during brake, red during turn signal, red for parking:

Here is the turn signal:

Another view when it is fully illuminated, it's red, it's just the way the camera caught it.

Yeah, looked at the US clusters too, but they're illegal in Europe... (although there's a dispensation possible for imported US cars).

But just polish your lights with a good product, makes 'em look deeper red! (and gives a better reflection from the sunlight).

Paul, out of curiosity, could you have a look whether there's a circled 'E' on any of the clusters of both your cars? If it's there they *should* be legal here too...
