Barcaospre
I have paid the deposit on a TTS Roadster and left the stealers with a spring in my step! Now the reviews have started to appear ( Autocar...I know:rolleyes:! Carmagazine and TopGear I am becoming increasingly gutted.) Should I walk away and go "Porch" hunting or hold my magnetic nerve. Views please!!!!
sidicks
I recommend a Porsche, rather than a Porch, if you want something to drive rather than somewhere to shelter at the front of your house when it is raining........... Sidicks
cruiser647
Ignore the reviews, it's down to you, not some journo who didn't get his oats/champagne/coke/bribe in themorning he drove the car. I have owned a good few cars that the journo hated. And you know what? They were wrong. Lancia Thema, Audi V8 Quattro. Bollox to the journos! sidicks
The Audi is a great looking car, I am sure you won't be disappointed! Sidicks
Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke Barcaospre Mag reviews are all well and good, but they're always based on the subjective opinion of the journo driving the car. Drive one yourself and decide... But yes, a Porka would be a good option, but you'll need to splash out a bit more.
Barcaospre
Thanks for the welcome and replies guys. I like pragmatic mates! Will give you another sit rep once I have driven a demo.......feeling slightly better already:eclipse:
John_Doe
Ignore the biased reviews, more often they come via brand devoted missbegottens who wouldnt know a good car from a barn door......personally, and seeing as you mentioned it I would go for a Porsche. Merlot
Well I've got a TT 3.2 Roadster with Magnetic Ride and its a delight - I prefer it to the Boxster S I used to have. Go for the TTS.
bazza_g
Thanks for the welcome and replies guys. I like pragmatic mates! Will give you another sit rep once I have driven a demo.......feeling slightly better already:eclipse: Welcome! I agree with the comments above, make the decision based on your own drive of it. Much as I love reading car mags, many have agenda's of their own pushing things along - the proof of the pudding is in the eating (or something like that anyway)
deanos3
Have a look on the Drivers-Republic site, they have a video review from Chris Harris (currently one of the best motoring journalist's out there) on the TTS and he quite likes it! Barcaospre
...for the welcomes and sound advice. You are right of course. Chris Harris from the Republic site was fair I thought. ( and nice to see a test car driven on an actual road ). Decided to do a 'confirmation' drive when the demonstrators turn up at the the dealership and then make the final decision. Will update you with my impressions. Thanks once again.
shao_khan
I think it is purely down to choice, most of us would never notice the difference. Having had a S3 (so same engine as TTS), get it remapped and you will not regret it - performance is astonishing - chat to APS in brackley, get a turbo back system and you could be looking at around 330 - 340bhp - and it it worth every penny. The porka (IMO) sounds better, but the TT has lovely styling, and if you go for one of the nicer colour options (yellow / orange, etc) - you'll have a fantastic car. cruiser647
and if you go for one of the nicer colour options (yellow / orange, etc) - you'll have a fantastic car. Ha ha! However saying that, if you have a car like that, get it seen!
Barcaospre
.....for the sound advice guys. Spoke to APS and they will be able to help immensely if the demo ride goes to plan. Will be back to tell you about that and how the story ends!!!
shao_khan
You'd best keep us updated or one of us will chat to Ed and get him to tell us........
_Tone_
Thought I'd pop in as I heard the word Porsche! There is a lot to be said for both the Porsche and the Audi - and as others ahve said - your experience of the drive is going to give you the right decision. If you get the Audi remapped then you will have a bloody quick car (Shao was not exaggerating one bit) as I found out one night trying to keep up with that S3! On the other hand the porsche will drive better - as for colour I would get Orange or Yellow but if your gonna play it safe then I think Phantom Black is cool! You have a very nice decision to make though - and hope you enjoy the test drives making up your mind...
Barcaospre
Guys thanks for the emails. ( They are helping honest!). Now a quick question about Insurance issues! If we keep Ed out of the equation (!) I can get a good deal for 390 pounds. ( Old boy doing good!!). However when I tell the very helpful lady from Adrian Flux I have talked to Ed from APS she tells me that 785 is the figure to focus my mind on! I appreciate that everything is relative but if the test drive next month goes to plan do YOU think I can secue a better deal elsewhere?? ( Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves etc!!!). Ed.... I am still focussed on the task in hand!!
