gizze
I know DMS were getting around 690nm from their maps and some 05 plate cars were showing problems with judder or similar, however, this was soon sorted and that box is good for quite a bit more apparently. Merlot
When I had my 535d done, DMS quoted 335 bhp and 505 lb ft. The latter is 685Nm if my maths is correct. Car feels quite happy with it. Whether it can take 100k miles like that I have no idea.
simon737
Come on Simon a bit more feed-back Sorry mate been enjoying the car too much....now covered about 250 miles in total since i bought it and I have to say its completely changed the car, it feels much more responsive its a lot quicker..i'd go as far as saying its probably capable of 0 - 60 in about 6 seconds now it really is that different. The amount of torque available even in 6th gear allows effortless overtaking when your doing anything from 60 upwards, in fact on the motorway its too easy to get into licence losing speed if you don't glance down, the difference comes above 2000rpm it feels almost similar to a V-tec engine...it accelerates nicely and then...thump off it goes...the acceleration from then on is so smooth and consistent in any gear it doesn't stop all the way up to and beyond 100mph. As for mpg well before i'f fitted the box as was averaging about 450 miles from its 52ltr tank, the last time i filled it up the range read came to just over 500 miles (which i've never seen before) and so far it will be right on target to get me to about 510 miles...significantly more than i had been getting and this is mainly from A and B road driving with hardly any motorway. There have been no downsides at all, i've read reports of some tuning boxes producing more fumes, making the engine managment light come on etc... but i've had nothing go wrong at all. So all in alli have to say i'm chuffed to bits £500 seems like a small amount to pay to ake a great car and even better one! If you've got any questions i'd be happy to report back! simon737
not sure...my first service isn't due til march 2010 according to the onboard computer...so unless the car has to go in before that i'm not 100% on what the outcome would be....i'll just remove it before i take it in, doubtful anything would be said or affected, hundreds of people use these type of tuning boxes and i've not read anywhere about it affecting anything. Great Grub
Hi, I too purchased a P-Tronic box for my car. I however have not had any luck with it yet. I have tried twice to fit the box (I do agree the instructions are very easy), but I then suffer from my car going into 'limp mode' when I then start the engine to take it for a test drive. I have had to take the car back to BMW twice with their explanation being that there has been an increase in power on the common rail. Coming up with some excuse I managed to have this repaired under warrantee - but I am hesitant to try again as I fear they may know what I'm trying to do and tell me off or something. My advice is becareful. Those new BMW key's can hold every piece of info and the systems at BMW are very clever at knowing precisely what has happened to the car. What Model have yu got then?, and have you "Turned the box right up on the settings"?, finally what year is your car?. I have been in touch with P-tronic and they have explained what to do in the event of this "LImp Mode" happening, and you do NOT need to consult BMW, you adjust the unit down ONE positon from the factory positon, if you have turned UP the power on the box from the settings sent, then on about 5% of engines;this is your problem. Some injection systems are closer to the high pressure limit from factory therefore adding 30% gain will push they OVER the safe margine, turn down one notch; I was advised after some restarts it will rectify it's self+++
