Rustynuts
Here's a tester for the TSN massive. My 110v transformer (for powertools) has suffered a failure. The overload cutout switch has broken, probably due to being kicked or knocked in the garage. Can anyone in the business of repairing powertools or suchlike tell me where to get a new one? Dave
Are you sure it's the switch and not the transformer that's gone pop?
Rustynuts
No, it's the cutout, cos I took it off and it's all rattling about inside it. Also, I linked the wires to test it, and it works. Deffo the cutout switch.
davidhodgkinson
What is the VA rating of the transformer?
davidhodgkinson
Have a look at rswww.com Part number 335-968 or 273-0854 as a guide
Rustynuts
What is the VA rating of the transformer? The label says "Max. continuous rating 2250 VA" This one looks like the one that's buggered on mine. Does that tie up correctly?

There should be a current rating on the thermal cutout. At 230V, 2250VA will be taking approximately 10A running, so you'll need at least a 10Amp version. Power Watts (VA) = Voltage (230Vac) x Current (Amps) Therefore "running Current" = Power / Voltage = 2250va/230v = 9.78Amps A transformer can take upto 10 times this on "startup", but this is unlikely in your situation. Have a look at the "faulty" part you have, but I'd put in this one rswww.com part number 273-0860 - it's the 10Amp version
Rustynuts
Just had a look at the old one and it's rated at 13A. The site shows 10A and 15A versions. I'm guessing 15A would be too much, therefore unsafe whereas 10A is not enough, therefore nuisance tripouts are a possibility.

Rustynuts
Yep, that's what I meant. 15A would be too high and wouldn't cut in when it needed to. It doesn't get much use really, but the biggest tool it drives is my Bosch angle grinder rated at 2000w Is that gonna push things a bit?

Give Alan a ring from Taylor Transformers (01257) 270230 and ask him if he can supply one. They use them all the time, so they should have a few on the shelf! They will be able to supply the correct current version for your transformer. All they will need to know is the VA rating

Rustynuts
Well, I spoke to Allan and he can supply a 10VA or a 15VA cutout. So I told him not to bother at the moment til I can see if I can get the correct one. Any more ideas? If I can't get the right one then I'll get a new transformer and flog this one with a 10VA cut off in it.

Rustynuts
He said that they didn't run 2250VA transformers so he didn't carry any spares for them (I think). Anyway, I didn't want to put him on the spot too much but he did say that he'd be inclined to run with a 10VA one over a 15VA one if it was a choice between the 2. davidhodgkinson
I've managed to find an online supplier that has the 12A version listed on their website (1658 Series) Zackfords 1658 series Or you could contact Techna and as for a T74-13 The data sheet is -> T74 Datasheet 01923 222 227 web- Techna website
