Cuprabob
Not sure about the automatic fines but all cars in Singapore have a transmitter on the windscreen for road charging. But then again in Singapore you have to buy the right to own a car and it's not cheap.
zippier
Zippier - like all professional organisations any information we hold/receive is covered by the data protection act and is never released without your permission. Although you don't make it totally clear what information will be stored, in what form and for how long. And other bodies can request / compel you to share the information without permission. Whilst i'm sure most of us drive safely and don't purposefully speed, it would be unfortunately, if, for example, following some sort of accident, the police requested all the information and it was then later used for a much different purpose than originally intended. I'm sure most people will think 'it'll never happen to me' but i wouldn't want to take the chance. Police Road Traffic Investigators will often take photos of the position of the satnav in the car (especially if obscuring the screen) following a serious accident, so it's no a stretch to assume that they might identify a unit as being associated with tracking information and follow that up. RedRobin
It can be done. Somewhere in Asia, Singapore I think, they have a satnav type device fitted to all cars and you get an automatic fine if you exceed the speed limit. I read this somewhere so it must be true! Technically easy enough though. ....That is very dangerous - What happens if you exceed the speed limit during an overtake, such as to complete the overtake more safely - You still be fined or risk life keeping to the limit. Golfer
....Thanks, Chri5 I was concerned if there was a way that 'authorities' could track your speed by either a mobile phone or by vehicle GPS SatNav. We all vary the 70 limit but hopefully with sensible consideration of road conditions etc and it would be horrific if we were fined etc robotically imo. But I guess it's a bit like smoking - The govn'ment can't afford to ban it totally because of the loss in taxes. When it rains, most sensible drivers slow and the result is usually more traffic hold-ups - My logic being that rigidly keeping everyone below 70 by robotic force would create other problems with worse consequences in terms of commerce and transportation. Unfortunatly specs and Average speed monitoring is being rolled out across the UK, it wont be long before you will NOT be able to safely break the speed limits on m/ways day or night sorry but thats from the horses mouth.

Surely this donkey's bottom of an idea will only roll out over some sections of motorways? Just how long is the donkey's bottom saying, or is it already happening? (Not in my neck of the woods). rovermorris999
Be careful in France on the Peage autoroutes. It was reported on another forum that Les Flics will often time a car between toll booths and fine you if your average speed is over the limit. shark_90
That's old news.. just stick to the left hand side when you get to the peage, Les Gendarmes will be to the right in the layby. Failing that, I'll stick to A and B roads rather than M'ways to enjoy my driving even if journey time is longer (of no importance to my lifestyle). And some people wonder why I don't usually vote and why I have anti-establishment tendencies. Cheers for the info

craigyb
I'm still unhappy with the RA PRO connected, last night it would not find a satelite for 3 hours despite being powered on and off many times. So completely useless for my journey home. It seems to be a recurring theme of this unit even after firmware updates. I don't see why I should have to stop my car, unplug the USB connector, wait a while and reconnect it just to get it to work.
RedRobin
.... I used to get loooong delays of several hours too on my New Road Angel (naff name!). I've only had a couple of delays on my PogoAlert while satellite searching and no longer than a few minutes.

rovermorris999
I've had absolutely no problems with my Road Angel Connected. Connects quickly, does everything it says it will, perhaps I've been lucky!
chrisash32
Hi All, New to the forum! Came across this topic when looking online for some reviews on the RA Professional Connected. If I can add, I have had 0 problems with mine at all! Satellites pick-up really quick (quicker than i can reverse out of my drive!) I also have no issues with the alerts, all are in good time and false alarms are minimal (compared to the Talex that it replaced!). Very pleased with the device on a whole! Hope you get your probs fixed with yours! Cheers Chris
graham131
Zippier - like all professional organisations any information we hold/receive is covered by the data protection act and is never released without your permission. You may have noticed that the new TomTom Connected Sat Nav's being launched in the Autumn are pre-loaded with the Road Angel Safety camera database. These devices also bring HD traffic to the UK - that is traffic information that is collected by querying the location, heading and speed of milion's of Vodafone sim cards so there is no shortage of people who already know where you are and how fast you are travelling CraigyB - mail me on graham dot mackie at roadangelgroup dot com as I have a deal for you regards Graham - can i have a deal too? I currently have a RA2 and was looking to upgrade to a RAP Connected. Called your sales team and was told NO we dont do any customer loyalty delas any more. I have had a classic roadangel since they came out, then upgraded to a RA2 and now want to move on again. Can i have a deal? or do i need to look elsewhere? PS - as an added bonus i even want to keep and update my old 1 for my wifes car - so double bubble for you. Thanks Graham

orinoco
Another vote against here, I have owned my paperweight with lights when it decides to switch on, since June of this year, during which time I have covered approx 10,000 miles, 4k across Europe and that is another story! But as well as not liking being warm and I mean warm not hot, they also don't like the cold my unit just shuts down in the morning when I get in the car and it has been cold, the unit is hardwired but fails to start until I am 45 minutes into my journey, save yourself the hassle and buy a decent product, as for the false camera van alerts I too am yet too see 1 despite when the unit is functioning it giving lots of false alerts that tend to make you start ignoring the unit

sloss
I've been watching this Thread as I have a Road Angel Plus and was thinking of upgrading to the Auto Update Version...... Meanwhile my RA+ managed to stop functioning. I filled out a Ticket on the Website, got a reply very quickly and sent it in for repair. As it was out of guarantee it cost me £30 + Postage. It did take quite a while but on enquiring they said they'd tried to contact me etc., etc. I'm always contactable so why not this time is anyone's quess... When I got it back it refused to find any cameras - it did the speed and direction as before but no cameras. I just thought it needed updated although the bumph on return said it had been updated with the latest list. It froze when I connected to my computer so I phoned RA where I spoke to a very helpful lady, and I agreed to return it for further work. Upshot is that, just on 2 weeks later, I've been advised today that a brand new unit has been sent out! Now that is good service - not the fastest but the right attitude..... gives me a warm feeling...... but now I've got another year's guarantee before I need to think of an upgrade! scooter001
HI folks good morning to you all, well im new to this site and have been reading through this whole thread. Very interesting it has been. I will say im impressed that Mr Graham Mackie is taking an active role in trying to resolve some of his product issues rather than just leaving it down to customer service or the quality department!. I would love to know though as the last post was the beginning of November if anyone's views has changed with regard to the RA Professional. grahammackie
Scoot, Unfortunately the Connected product isn't available on the High Street as our experience has shown they aren't setup to sell or support our Connected products i.e. they are unable to demonstrate the key features and cannot exchange faulty units etc. Our products are available through our approved online resellers (if you don't need to actually touch one before buying) and through the VW,Audi, Seat, Skoda and Mercedes-Benz networks as well as some of the Porsche, Land Rover and Jaguar dealers. Trusted reviews did a comprehensive review of the product a while back with a good video of the key features - see Road Angel Prof. Connected Video Review - TrustedReviews If there is anything else I can do to help just mail me on grahamdotmackie@roadangelgroupdotcom regards
