Road Angel Professional Connected

Recommended Posts

I'm currently in the market for a detector and I was going to get one of these but after reading this I'm a bit sceptical.

Whats best then is the question ?

Also, do the majority of detectors on the market pick up those that are in mobile police cars say on the motorways ?

Reading CraigyB's thread here on the RA Prof connected device (and having met/done business with him and thus know he is an absolutely top chap) I know he wouldn't grumble without just reason.

I've been looking for the last couple of months (have had a Road Angel Classic since 2002 on a lifetime update deal). I have read, researched everything I can get my hands on. There are some neat bits of kit out there and it is also easy to find negative reports on most of the detectors too. Some have database issues, others a high cost of subscription and/or a small user base and of course the inevitable h/w failures too.

I have had an offer from Road Angel for a Professional Connected for £160 with a 6 month subscription on the basis of having a Classic on a Lifetime update program.

I have resigned myself to the fact thet I may need more than one RA device before I get a 'good' one...at least at this price it is less than the £300 the Classic (I had a dud one of these too) was in 2002 and ordered one.

I have to agree - mine is great no "real" issues. Couple of minor points

1 - Make sure firmware is up to date

2 - Had an issue on the 2 hottest days of the year where the charging circuitry did not work due to it being too hot (mine is hardwired) - luckily this did not cause me too much of an issue as my trips were short enough to not deplete the full battery.

recommendation for future models would be to also hardwired mode to function without charging the battery so as to NOT cause this issue. Mine is in my car permanantly so therefore i do not actually even need a battery!

Thanks

Graham

With regard to hardwiring - which I will also get done when my Cabrio shows up next week.

I note that the device Menu has a 'Hardwired' On or Off setting - does that just relate to disabling the auto-off function or is it deeper than that?

I have just updated the Firmware - mine is 1.4.10.1923OTA OUTSIM 1.0.1.65
