Hi Folks,

Does anyone know the part number for these darkened rear lights or where to get them?

I assume they are different to the r32 rear clusters in that you don't need separate reflectors ?

Thanks

from golfgti forum

R32 Smoked rear lights are

1K6 945 093 K inner left

1K6 945 094 K inner right

1K6 945 095 T outer left

1K6 945 096 T outer right

think the ed30 are the same mate

Hi ken,

I fitted a set to mine only last week. Got them on a group buy via vagdrivers.net. The guy who organised the buy sourced them from vagparts.com. They were much cheaper than local dealer prices even without the group discount. Worthwhile mod, looks way better...

Thanks Joe,

Couple of questions , are they LHD or RHD and is there a difference ?

Also , why does the R32 have additional reflectors fitted to the bumper and the Ed 30 not if they are the same lights ?

Do you have a VW or hella part number?

Thanks

Ken

Hi Ken

They are RHD. The difference is, the foglight/reverse light are on opposite sides depending on RHD/LHD. On RHD cars, the foglight is on the left (i.e. the passenger side). Although, as far as I know, even if you got an LHD set, the inner lenses are easily swapped around.

Not sure why Vagparts state you need extra reflectors, because they didn't come with mine, and the light clusters look identical to me (there is a reflector-strip in them) as the standard lights, apart from the tint of course.

Vagparts won't let me link directly for some reason, but goto VAG Parts OE parts from the people who really know OE parts! and:

enter online shop -> product overview -> VW -> Golf MK5 / Jetta -> Electrical

They then allow you to specify LHD/RHD when you select the item.

Hope that helps! Fitting them is a doddle.

Joe.

Thanks Joe , found that fine.

I just wonder is there a difference as I doubt VW would have no reflectors on the Ed 30 and have them onthe R32 if they were the same light .

Thans anyway , I'd say the look great on the blue graphite ( my fav colour , my 05GTI was that colour , should have kept it!!! )

....If you are thinking of changing your tail lights, then what about these LED ones made for VW by Valeo with approved E numbers : -

Signalling is far more visually effective and consequently safer. The stock tails are not clever when you are on the brake pedal and also indicating - Waiting to turn right onto a side road with a truck bearing down on you from behind, for example.

Yeah, I've never seen a definitive answer as to the difference (if any) between the R32 tails and the ED30 tails. I suspect there is no difference. I *think* I read somewhere that the extra reflectors were added to the R32 specially for the american market... though I wouldn't be sure about that either.

They look well on the blue graphite alright! If you look at my pics, you can see the reflector strip around the bottom of the clusters... same as the standard ones.

thanks for the info folks , Red those lights look great on your car and Joe the darkened ones look great on the blue graphite also ... i've some thinking to do !!!

Wonder what would suit my black GTI better ???

....Well, I think that the darker tails will look better aesthetically on a black GTI. However, the LED versions (like mine) will definitely provide more road safety - No-one can argue about that!

I'm lucky in that on a red car the LED's both look better and are safer - I have experienced seeing a large truck not realising I was stopped and waiting to turn right!! Fortunately he managed to stop.
