E39 business radio works for 10 seconds and then dies!!

i've a 97 523i - the business radio works for about 10 seconds when i start the ingnition but then dies after that - no display on the radio, nothing.

incidentally, none of the controls or display work during the 10 seconds of sound i get upon ignition.

if there are any pointers on how i might fix this i'd greatly appreciate it.

I think your best bet would be to buy a new radio off ebay, the business head unit goes for very little money.
