davyk31
My sis in law gave me her laptop to have a look. When she tried to connect to internet via a dialup connection it just threw up a message saying the modem was not installed etc. I removed and reinstalled the modem and now it dials ok but immediately disconnects. I am trying this in my house which has Broadband, does this in anyway affect her connection as I also noticed this in my dads house when my mum got BB his old dialup hardly ever connects properly. Also I want to run a virus check on the laptop as there does not seem to be any antivirus on it. I tried to load the free AVG but in the setup it throws up a message about the version of windows ME not being supported and it cannot continue. Any ideas how to get some antivirus ( free ) loaded. Also are there any diagnostic programmes or anything I should be running on this machine and how can I load them without it accessing the internet? Any help appreciated, the main issue is getting the internet connection back.
bullett
Hook it up to your router on a cable and try one of the many online av sites. ME is pre-histrory so getting software for it is going to be tricky now unles you have old versions knocking around somewhere. You could also try disconencting your BB whilst you dial out. davyk31
Which online Anti virus, spam checker etc sites are safe to use? I did a Google search but then got afraid some of them could be corrupt or cause more problems than I am trying to solve.
