Wiring diagram for front seat adjust switches

Does anyone have any idea which colour wires are connected to the switch that controls back and forwards movement of the front seats? I had a passenger this morning that took it all the way forward whilst squealing and ignoring me when I said I'd rather she didn't do that. Wife's friend so no slapping allowed :ffs:. I'll dremel the box apart tomorrow and rebuild what ever's worn out but for now I just want to move the sodding seat back so my wife can use the front seat.

This seem's to be a common problem for this age of vehicle so when I open up the box I'll take lots of pictures and do a how to, that's if it works and doesn't set fire to the car of course. +++

Thanks Ian, apologies for the colorful language in it. I was a tad annoyed. If I have no joy with it this afternoon I'll contact you for a price. The switch had a cover on it that was obviously not well secured because her fat, sweaty digits popped it off whilst she was P-ing about with it and it's nowhere to be found. I now realise I'm getting old and intolerant when instead of looking at someone and thinking how sweet it is that they are amazed by electric seats I find myself wanting to beat them over the head with a DVD player or similar whilst screaming "look! It goes in, it comes out. It's amazing! It's not like we haven't had electric motors for over a century now is it? Now F*** off out of my car and put your fingers in the toaster. I'll find that infinitely more amusing and it may have the added bonus of preventing you from breeding further you tofu eating Guardian reader"

Or something like that.

Thank god you're over 200 miles away otherwise my housekeeping money would get spent.

No, I work at a really rough comprehensive, I used to work in the probation service and before that in IT. These environments promote certain skills. Ranting instead of going postal being one of them. I am known for it, comes from reading a lot, being a miserable sod and having an attitude to diversity and my fellow man strikingly similar to that of the gunnery sergeant in "full Metal Jacket". R. Lee Emery I believe he is called.

Don't get me started on eugenics......

Firstly a big thanks to Figure11 for the wiring diagram and Ian at A8 parts for assisting me with a simple problem that my incoherent rage threatened to make much worse and helping prevent me curling up in a corner, rocking back and forth and stroking my club hammer. That sort of thing perturbs the wife.

Cause number 1. The switch consists of three toggles arranged in a row under the little black cover that was so helpfully removed by Ms. Piggy. The large central toggle that controls forward and rearwards adjustment MUST be in the six o'clock position (vertical) rather than in the quarter to three position (horizontal). If it is not aligned correctly it's movement is restricted and it will not work.

Cause number 2. The plastic fascia that surrounds the side of the seat base and that the switches mount on is secured by three screws at the front, one in the middle and one at the rear. If these are not all in place then you move the fascia rather than the switch. I was amazed at how little movement was required to render the operation of the switch intermittent.

Cause number 3. Worn internals and loose wiring. When I came to investigate someone had been before me and not properly re-secured the wiring into the purple/pink block on the back. It was flapping. refer to the wiring guide above for which colour to stick in which hole. As for the internals, well comparing the operation of the other switch of the same type on the seat to the other, the switch in question felt shagged. If they really are the same type I am considering swapping them over as a cheapskates way of saving buying a new switch.

But who cares, the seat is now restored to operation and ready to resist the deprivations of being abused by a ham fisted cretin. I have now taken to carrying a spare dvd player in the capacious boot should this type of thing occur again.
