sloss
I've renewed my rear caliper seals, discs and pads and the handbrake adjusted up fine and I gravity bled the calipers - Girling Lucas as fitted to a 4.2 Quattro 02 vintage. I have good enough brakes and the ABS works but if I hold the pedal down it eventually goes to the floor - engine on or off. There is no loss of fluid. The car has ESP but there is no connection under the ashtray which I expected to find according to my Elsa Database? To me this would appear to be a Master Cylinder problem but why now as I did not force any fluid back up the system as I would the pistons in on the bench. However the O/S hose clamp leaked overnight and it lost a lot of fluid. Any ideas?
Ska
If your looking for the interface socket for the diagnostic tool it is proly under the dash near the steering wheel IIRC.
sloss
Hi Ska, I can connect to that one but according to the bumph I read the system needs to be connected through another connection under the ashtray... there is a 'hole' there but no connector. Seemingly it's to run the pump to purge it! Looks like a trip to the Independent Specialist - a little humble pie I think after telling him I'd do the brakes myself!! It's only money.... Duffy3074
When I had my last fluid change done (I do it yearly on these things) my local independant (Whom I rate) said that gravity bleeding alone, or even pressure bleeding at too low a pressure would lead to exactly this problem on an A8/S8. I use an eazibleed with the pressure turned up and it worked very well.
sloss
Thanks for that, I'll get myself an 'eazibleed' and change the fluid while I'm at it. Watch this space....
