gizze
Why have you got your left and right speakers up in the corner of the room?? They should be a little closer together than you are away from them, and they should be at ear height, also the same height as your centre so you create a wall of sound where the speakers disapear. I would move them while you can, before you decorate.
Dave
It's good to see that you haven't gone with the most common mistake of putting the tv too far up the wall.. saves a lot of neck ache!
Hopsta
Everything is too far up the wall for you Dave Loving that install, just wish i had the cash!

It's not very clear in that photo but there's a picture rail so we ran the speaker wires along the top of that then installed the speakers just below. It looks (and sounds) fine. We fitted the centre speaker (the only one that has been relocated with this install) just under the TV as it seemed to me that things like speech should come from (as close as possible) the visual source. Hence mounting it as close to the TV as possible.

We've actually lowered it further today (by about 150mm) since that photo was taken. I was playing with it last night running a couple of films and things and even at that height there's a feeling that you're looking up at it ever so slightly. Don't notice it to begin with, but it becomes tiresome after a bit. So it's come down and with a range of adjustment either way on the bracket so we can fine tune it if necessary. Ari
Brush face plate anyone :confused:Aldous Systems (Europe) Ltd Double Gang Brush Faceplate Like that! Might get a couple of those (although the outlet at the TV end is completely hidden by the TV anyway).
Ari
ari???whats teh block sticking out below the tv great set up by the way As Hopsta correctly says, centre speaker for the surround sound. This will get swapped when Blu-Ray surround sound comes down in price enough that I can afford one (it's mad money at the moment), hopefully for one a little more modern and smart (and ideally in black to match the TV). Ari, I believe that the PS3 is still your best (and cheapest?) bet re: BluRay at the moment
Ari
No optical input on my surround sound system though, so if I use a PS3 for watching DVD's I lose the 5.1 digital.
Ari
Well after a lot (and I mean a lot, that brick and cement dust really does get everywhere) of cleaning, I finally got everything re-assembled and put back into the sitting room tonight, and this is how the finished article looks. Well, nearly finished. I just need to get a small AV cabinet to go in the corner of the room where the DVD player is sat on the floor at the moment which will house all the AV equipment. (And I need to sort out the speaker wires that run from the corner of the window sill down to the DVD player, they were hidden behind the previous TV as it took up that corner completely! :D) You might notice as well that the screen is quite a bit lower than before. When it first went up I tried watching it for a bit the first night, and couldn't get away from the fact that although it looked ok, I was constantly looking slightly up at it and felt I needed to lower my gaze to be comfortable. Now it's directly ahead and down slightly, and it's so much nicer to watch as a result. Lot of effort (and not a small amount of money), but worth it now it's done, I'm chuffed to bits with it. Muppetboy
Just my opinion but that is a fecking huge TV for the size of the room, 50" would have looked absurd!
gizze
Looking good Ari and well worth the effort matey!! I personally could not go back to a TV that is low anymore, but I tend to lean back on the sofa so I prefer the bottom of the screen at eye level. I now find it uncomfortable when we go to friends and their sets are low, I can't put my head back on the sofa. Funny what we get used to.

To be fair, the photos do seem to "shrink" the room, but yes I think you're right, although it would actually have been ok from a viewing point of view, a 50" would have dominated the room. This one looks ok when it's off, it doesn't impose. I think the fact that it's mounted so low helps on that score too.

Yes I guess you're right, it's what works for you. The first night I had it up and running I watched a few bits on it but I always felt my gaze naturally fell on the "Panasonic" logo under the screen. And I was having to almost force myself to look up above that point to view it. So we completely relocated the bracket to where it is now, and having watched a movie the last two nights I have to say that for me it's spot on now. We've "centred" the bracket on the back of the TV though so I've got the ability to adjust up or down if I feel it wants it, but I don't think I will.
