shark_90
A standard remap doesn't really require any other mods, perhaps a panel filter if you're feeling fruity but so long as your car is in good health and is regularly serviced and well maintained you'll have no problems. What model Golf do you have?

shark_90
Sorry, it's a 2007 DSG Golf GTI You're looking at around 250bhp and a healthy extra dose of torque. Have you looked at any tuners yet?
theybe
No, I don't know any tuners. I was hoping to get some advice or guidance on that.
shark_90
Well there are literally hundreds of tuners and many can offer you something different to the others, it depends on what you are looking for and what your budget is. There are a few nationwide outfits who may well have a dealer close to you, one example of them is Revo. There are other tuners who are based at an office such as AmD, who will require you to travel to them. And there are smaller outfits that can remap your car either at an office or mobile. It all depends on what you would rather pay and the service you would rather receive. I personally don't believe all of the marketing that I read, nor do I want to sit in someone's sales office drinking free coffee and parting with upwards of £500 and two of the remaps I've had done have been mobile. The other was a Revo done at a local dealer. They were all on different cars so it's difficult to compare them back to back and there will be many people on here who can offer you guidance specifically related to the GTi. But beware.. the subject of tuning is mostly willy waving and everyone will tell you whatever they parted with £500 for is best.. naturally. So read them all and make a decision based on your needs
sternocleidomastoid
Hi,Can anyone please tell me how to go about chipping my golf gti? Has anyone chipped theirs? What sort of bhp can i upgrade thos to and has anyone done this. Is there anything else that I would need to upgrade once its chipped. Cheers I got a revo remap done on my mark 5 GTI a couple of months ago and can heartily recommend it. The car feels more alive and fun and IMO they should make them all like this! The remap alone should be good for approximately 25-35 horse power and this can be complemented with various hardware mods, although beware this sh!t is addictive!:crackpipe:
theybe
Thanks for the advice guys. Anyone know whether if this will be still under warranty.
stooH
My understanding is that the warranty is still ok UNLESS something fails which is caused by the remap. EG If your diverter valve failed after a remap I guess that they'd put that down as a direct result of the remap whereas if you're on 18 inch alloys and you get the white worm then that can't be attributed to the remap and will still be covered. The other thing to consider is if you own the car or have it on hp/pcp etc I know there was a post in the general cars forum about some guy who pimped his car when he didn't own it and rightly or wrongly got screwed over by Seat. Mook
Anyone know whether if this will be still under warranty. Technically, based on the VW warranty, it's not covered if you re-map it. But a lot of that depends on where you get it serviced. Some service managers are fine with remaps - some dealers actually provide remaps as a third party option. You'll hear lots of people saying that it's not detectable and, frankly, that's bollox. The software code is changed, so it's very easy to find out. The standard VW dealer diagnostics equipment, however, can't tell. Don't forget to tell your insurance company as well - if you don't you're effectively running and uninsured car. SO8
If you use Superchips Bluefin and flash the ECU back to standard the dealer will merely see your original standard map - as that is what you have reloaded. The software resets the flash counter to what it was before the reflash so that shouldn't be an issue. If you use Revo or APR it is their version of standard that is in the ECU and not your original .... which, I am sure with the right equipment, could be 'seen'. That is my understanding having spoken to a well respected tuner who remaps all the time. They said SC Bluefin is totally undetectable if reverted to standard as it is exactly what was on your car in the first place whereas the others, whilst in their view invisible in the real world, were technically 'detectable'. FWIW though they dealt in more than one of the main remap firms including Superchips they preferred others to Superchips as they thought it was quite restrained power wise and didn't give as much as it could. They thought they had been a bit too conservative in their settings. Of course, if you want something that is cautious but clearly loads more fun than standard this may be the way you would go ..... They said all the main players in VW mapping all produced a good product and you can't really go too wrong - it just comes down to personal preference. SO8
Just back today from Superchips who have remapped my Edition 30 .... nothing too aggressive with their map for the DSG .... but it still took my car from a totally standard 229 bhp to 295 bhp !! Most of the increase comes from 4500rpm upwards right to the redline - it handles it great and I was very impressed with how easy the whole process was. Very happy indeed

SO8
Great stuff; enjoy! Did you dyno the car before and after? Yep, Superchips put it on their rollers first - and it made 229 bhp (with 5K of mainly town driving on it) and then ran it up afterwards again getting 295 bhp

Very happy indeed I am very pleased you are happy with the results SO8.I know i was impressed when APS remapped my GTi.I will be visiting AMD at Thurrock in the very near future to have my ED30 remapped, as they are much closer to me than APS.However, i would not hesitate to recommend either. As for warranty issues, i have always been upfront with my dealer about remapping etc and never had any problems. The same goes for insurance i would sooner declare the power increase and be covered.. I have been out in an AmD remapped Edition 30 with a manual gearbox .... and very impressive it was too I think it put out 312 bhp on their RR. It had a Forge DV and resonated Millek TBE. It went like stink !! I don't think you will be disappointed - the manual gearbox allows much more torque in the midrange which gives a real push back in the seat feeling compared to the DSG remap by Superchips which makes allowance for the DSG box and is much more progressive. The AmD remap gave the cars TC system a bit of work in the dry as the turbo came in

JonC
What isthe maximum bhp anyone has got out of a GTI?Regards I'm sure APR have a fully raced tuned MKV running at 385bhp. Ed30's can run reliably at around 330 and GTI's reliably at 280. Of course, either can run at more, but at the detriment of the engine.
Mook
Like Jon says. It does, however, all come down to how much you spend on it and what you do. If you're not replacing turbos, intercoolers or internals, but you ar replacing the exhaust (the single most restrictive thing on oll modern cars) then you can get a standard GTI to about 250bhp and a GTI Ed30 to about 330 bhp. It's not, however, just about headline bhp figures - torque is a massive part of it as well as how it's delivered. I can feck around with the mapping on my track toy and up the power by about 25bhp and 30 torques, which is great on track, because you're constantly between 4 and 7,000 rpm, but it makes it undriveable on the road. If you want stupid money and stupid results, then you can get over 400bhp out of the 2.0TFSI, but you have to start with a completely new block and internals and a budget of about £15K Edited November 22, 2008 by Mook
