PsYcHe
I assume it didn't come with a hard drive for 19 quid?.. Or did you just score yourself an awesome bargain? With regards to the power and cables, a couple of things come to mind. 1 - Do the devices have a USB charger? Connect a USB converter somewhere, and use a USB hub fitted under the trim somewhere. 2 - Run it all in the boot. The CD Changer unit comes out with 4 10mm bolts (left, right and two front) and there's a good space under there to hid cables, and you could maybe rig something up to mount the HDD unit in there as well (assuming you can get a remote to it) Or... that may well fit inside the rear armrest where the first aid kit goes. Oli18
Hey, I got it off eBay here but they have stopped selling the item due to breaching ebay guidelines apparently. And yes, it came without the hard drive, which i took out of a spare laptop. So, a bit more of an update since my last post... ...i tested the media player and even though it worked OK, it was relatively bulky and it needed a separate power source which added another cable which was annoying me. I got my new iPhone the other day :D and that got me thinking... I did some research and got the Apple Composite AV cable which allows you to output video footage from your iphone/itouch/ipod onto a tv/screen. I paid £29 and you get an extra power socket but you can get much cheaper alternatives now but i was in a rush and wanted it to be spot on before going abroad. (Just note that the composite av cable [red, white, yellow] is different to the component av cable[red, white, purple and meant for HD tvs]) You just have to add videos onto your iPhone using iTunes as normal (you just have to convert video files to mp4 format) and the video and sound quality is astounding. I went to Holland on the weekend and the gf watched 'The Dark Knight' on the way over and 'Superbad' on the way back... ... it's like a cinema with the Bose on and the sun screens up I seriously recommend this setup over the media player as (a) it's smaller (b) it doesn't require an extra power cable and the iPhone is surprisingly good on battery using the cable as it switches off the screen © you have an iPod and video player in 1 and it's easily removable. All i want now is to get the armrest setup like James has in his S8...it looks very cool i must admit. - was that just the original mobile phone cradle that you mounted the ipod on?! Thanks, -Oli Edited December 3, 2008 by Oli18

harpersimon
I am sure its is the weather that is stopping people doing a great deal. I had to force myself out in the brief sunshine I encountered staying at a friends down south this week just to clean it! And its dark.. and cold.. and wet.. rubbish! Hope everyone hangs on to the cars till summer and gets their mojo back
Oli18
I know what you mean harpersimon...the weather really puts a damper on things. Can't wait for spring time! On the plus side, it can make you start to look at all the other stuff that isn't weather dependent that may have bothered you... Like my keyfob...it was in a pretty sorry state and i think the previous owner loved pressing the buttons as it was all warped and worn...bizarre! I found a shop on eBay deutschland that sells replacement button covers. So, after a quick delivery and a 3 minute play taa daaa! Before: After: I know, it's only a small upgrade but for 5 euros, i thought what the heck.. Next will be figuring out how to program a spare keyfob i got and getting a new key for it + getting that cut. -Oli

alera
I want to swap out the dvd multichanger in mine and replace with a media player and permanent wired ps2 that can be controlled from the main cabin. The ps2 is 12v and I have some rf controllers that work fine already. Its probably pretty simple to do as there is 12v power and all the connections in the media bay and with the changer box removed there will be plenty of room, but I am stupid at these things and scared of breaking something The main issues is getting an ir receptor into the cabin, and if possible the ability to isolate the power by remote (ie swith everything on and off from the cabin) I wish It s8 would get going on the d3s he seems well up for messing with anything on the d2s and is fairly local....hint hint.....Craig doesnt seem to do the media player upgrades anymore unfortunately it seems looking at his site.
