andy1307
Sorry for a stupid question but I have the brake pad warning light just come on my A8 Any ideas how many mile (approx) have I got to replace? Getting them done in a couple of weeks cheers andy
sloss
That's not a stupid question. There is usually plenty of meat left unless the non alarmed pad has worn faster. 2 weeks 'normal' driving ie 4/500 miles will be fine IMHO. On a quiet road with the windows open brake gently and listen for any grinding noises - that's bad news! And the rears don't have a warning circuit - on my 2002 Quattro anyway. PsYcHe
None on the pre-facelift rears either. Also, you may have fallen victim to the dodgy sensor wire problem. Had it on mine for a bit, the wires get loose and strwtched then periodically trigger the warning and it doesn't reset until the ignition is turned off. If it does it every time you press the brakes, then it's probably wear, if not, then it's possibly the cable.
GarbitAsh
I have this light on. I thought it was low pads, but from what you are saying it might be the wire. Just to be quite clear then: 1. If it comes on when you start up, ie before using the brake, then it is likely the wire? 2. If it comes on when you brake, it is the pads? Where/how am I correcting this loose wire problem? At the caliper? Thanks
Figure11
I have this problem and for me it is the wire or the instument cluster. Look at your pads if you have more that 2.5 / 3 mill then it's not the low wear indicator. The low wear indicator works on an open circuit. Soon as a rotor wears through the circuit (breaks the circuit) the light comes on. If you get a loose connection or a break in the wire anywhere the light comes on! Whats more there is only one circuit for both sides. Audipages has a process for permanently curing the problem here. Mike
Cuprabob
I must admit I thought these indicators worked the other way. Once the pad wore down to a level the contact embedded in the pad would earth on the disk causing the light to come on. I understand now why if you fit pads without wear indicators you need to short out the plug.
