Hi everyone.

Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with warped brake discs on their polo's etc.

I have a 2007 polo 1.2E. There was a shudder coming through the brake pedal and the steering wheel whil braking.

Now the car has been to the vw dealer today and they have told me the discs are warped.

And as is there disposition they say they are not covered by warranty. (i do understand that they are a wear and tear item). But after 9910 miles????? And i have only done 2500 miles in it since buying it.

So any thought or suggestions??

Thanks

kenny

I'd try a different dealer. Or ask them to contact Customer Services and point out that the total mileage is less than the first service, and your actual mileage is ridiculously low.

thanks for the reply rusty. I have already called VW customer services and they say that they won't do anything as the car has done over 6000 miles. So got back on to the dealer and they said they would do a run off test and get onto VW for me. (thats what they told me anyway).

so heres hoping. But i wont be paying the £250 the dealer wanted to replace the discs!!!!!!!!

We had the same problem. Cutting a long story short we ended up getting the discs skimmed - this retrued the discs leaving a flat surface for the new pads to work with - it's half the price of new discs as well. I found our nearest garage on Skim My Discs. Apparently skimming discs is an approved VW procedure (I hear they don't like doing it as they don't sell as many brake discs) and my discs have been fine since - no more vibration has occurred and i'm 10k miles down the line .

Be careful though as you can only get your discs skimmed if they're above minimum thickness - but they should be as you've only done a few thousand miles. Hope you find this useful

I would ask yes or no if its an MOT fail - I know this is a minimum and you may want your brakes to be better than that but it does focus the garage's mind a bit. I had some scored discs which despite some hints to the contrary passed MOT last year. I had them replaced this year at MOT time and the (different) garage said they were pretty shot but still passed MOT - this was at 40k on a much heavier car so as long as they are stopping you OK & not causing loads of discomfort I would be tempted to leave them if they pass MOT ?

update.

VW agreed that the brakes should be changed free of charge. so the work has been done for zilch.

Cool.
