How to insert pictures in your post.

So, you want to have a picture in your post and don't know what to do? Loads of people are asking this so here's a quick "How to".

First up, where's your picture? If you have it on your computer then here's the format.

Start a new thread or reply to another one, and you'll be looking at the text box like this. Down near the bottom you'll see a "Manage Attachments" button.

attachment.php?attachmentid=35257&stc=1&d=1233474355

Click this and it'll open a pop up window like this.

attachment.php?attachmentid=35258&stc=1&d=1233474622

Click the "Browse" button, and search for your picture on your computer. Only you know where you keep them so that's up to you. Then double click the pic you want to insert and click the "Upload button.

attachment.php?attachmentid=35259&stc=1&d=1233474975

It'll take a few seconds to upload and then you can close the pop up window. Then look back down to the "Manage Attachments" area and you'll see it's changed. There's your picture attachment, uploaded and ready to use.

attachment.php?attachmentid=35260&stc=1&d=1233475217

So, that's got it hosted right here on TSN, and all you need to do now is insert it into your message. To do this just click on the pic attachment you want to use (I've got a few there which I've uploaded in the course of making this thread) and a new window will open showing your picture. Then highlight the complete url in the address bar at the top of your browser, right click and copy it. Then come back to your new message page and click the "Insert picture" button (cunningly disguised as a picture of a mountain)...

attachment.php?attachmentid=35262&stc=1&d=1233475941

...and a new pop up will appear. Paste the previously copied url into the pop up box...

attachment.php?attachmentid=35263&stc=1&d=1233475953

...and click "Ok".

There. Now you can preview your post and see if it worked. If it didn't then you've done something wrong.

If your picture is hosted already on another site, all you need to do is copy the url where it exists and use the "Insert Picture" routine without the upload bit. However, what happens then is that the site where the pic is hosted will get massive bandwidth useage if loads of people view your post with the picture in (called "Hotlinking"). Much better to have it hosted somewhere relevant like here instead of stealing bandwidth from other places. If it's your server then that's fine, but if it was my server I'd probably substitute a different pic to the same location and you'd get a picture of my arse instead of what I originally had there. :roflmao:

Nice one!

The only issue is that my IE7 browser does not show the emoticos and text chaging tool bars, what do I need to do? I have flash, and all the java stuff installed - but no ability to do any advanced editing or posting?

Cheers

Tone

Did you read my reply in the Test Forum thread?

You need the url (web address) of the picture if you're stealing it from t'net. Right click on the image and open in new tab or copy address. On the iPad etc, just hold your finger on the image.

If it's one thing of your own pictures pictures then you need to host it somewhere ... Photobucket, live drive, Dropbox etc.

I normally end up getting the infuriating "this community does not allow that image extension" message and end up searching for a similar (but usually sh1tter) image with a different extension.

For example, there are far better pictures of that Orange MG thing I posted in Woppums thread, but the forum wouldn't let me use them, so we ended up with those two crap pics instead.

What was the image extension then?? We allow most normal images, jpg, jpeg, bmp, gif, png, tiff, etc
