M7R
Has one one used any of the 3rd party leads that work with the shareware version 704? I could do with one for scanning my B7 and coding the new DIS stalk, but I cant really afford the or justify the £250+ for a full hex+can lead. the 3rd party leads are around the £90 mark so still not that cheap, but better. or is anyone selling up? cheers Karl. shark_90
The "third party" leads you speak of are actually pirate copies of the official Ross-Tech interface. You can use an ebay sourced OBDII lead to scan your car with VAG-COM but you won't be able to do any coding unless you buy a Ross-Tech license for $99. aj84
The way I see it is the extra you pay on a genuine one pays off in no time I bought the "pirate" ones from ebay 4 times over a period of a year for £50 each That £200 and a bit more could have got me the original thing Reason I bought so many is they all died! It was only until I started reading properly that it was pirate and it was known to do this I got a genuine one, it paid off straight away Some people decided to leave me some £££ for checking their car out (I did not ask for this and would not either) I also checked mine and a few others in the family out rather than booking it into Audi (and VW too for a friends golf) where they would have no doubt billed me anything from £70 upwards for a "diagnostic" Trust me..it pays off and it works too :- )

paul_tdi
I also bought from the place suggested by Shark (Cheers for the pointer Ben!) and the goods arrived the next day and also wish I had bought one sooner, whilst a considerable sum of cash to outlay you will easily save yourself a lot more.
