Hi All,

I have an 02 Passat which is suffering from intermittent electrical problems.

At times the windows will not work, remote central locking will not work and alarm seems to go off randomly. Alarm will continue to go off even when the car is started.

Also the button for opening the fuel cap or the boot doesnt seem to work anymore.

I got a friend to put the laptop on the car and he mailed me the reading below:

I dont really know anything about electrics, does anybody know what might be wrong?

Hi, I support the reply from Shark......'wet carpets' have been noted on manyof the replies on the Passat site, including me. The wet carpet syndrome usually shows up on the n/s rear passenger carpet and can find a way to the front passenger areas.....water leaks from front bonnet area runs back to lowest part of car...water possibly leaking from pollen filter housing SEAL and the plenium area under battery and brake servo being a result of BLOCKED DRAIN HOLES (there are two drain holes) ??? ...(please refer to the other passat postings on water leaks as this is covered in more detail). This is assuming, of course, that there is a water leak affecting the CCM and it has entered the CCM/ECU under n/s front passenger carpet. Note...so many electrical probs is a clue to the CCM/ECU but of course, it could be something else.

If it is due to water leak and you get round to changing the filter pollen SEAL under boot, make sure you get the correct seal. VW service dept ordered my part replacement, giving me the standard foam seal which they call a gasket...you will likely need the other type they dont' offer, which is basically a kind of mastic seal of about one metre plus long, rolled up for packing...you simply cut the length needed and place under filter housing to give a water tight seal between housing and car body. The VW technicians use this to stop the leak...!!! One prob, the service centre usually sell the whole metre plus....being approx £25 and will not cut to user requirements (perhaps I was unlucky) !!! I noted on one of the other posts, they obtained this item for free?? remember, the cost of replacing the CCM will be hundreds, so be cautious on this...Of course, it should be FREE because there is a design problem....in my opinion (sorry VW but this should have been sorted quickly on the earlier models...no excuses really no excuses). If you do need a new seal why not contact me and we can work out a price for the correct length...Im just about to repair my filter sealing too, using this most expensive part. It makes sense surely to repair asap. Good luck in finding the source of the problem first; hope this assists you.

i have followed these and it sorted my car, but the electronic boot realese still doesnt work ???!!!??, the worst bit is drying the car out. i was luck and already had a dehumidifier which i ran inside the car for about 4 days, and i still put it in there now and then.
