:ffs:I owned a passat 1996 TDi with the mentioned ecu it was chipped with a superchip it was the dugs . I sent it to heaven but kept the ecu no keys nowt else. I the aquired a Golf mk3 1997 TDi same ecu no but with the letters ending BF I fitted the ecu and it ran for about 2 secs. Yup I now know its something to do with keys I do not have the old keys.I have vag Com can I do any thing with it or do I have to go to VW no no no . Hope someone out there can help Regards

someone may correct me on this but if i recall vagcom can only duplicate keys, not remove the required value from the ecu and program a key, you should find a little tool for doing that on ebay i think

Try this:

1. Install the new ECU in the car
   [select]
   [17 - Instruments]
   [Adaptation - 10]
   Leave channel at "00"
   [Read]
   [save]
   
   
2. [Done, Go Back]
   [Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
   [Exit]
   
   
3. Turn ignition OFF for 15 seconds. Start vehicle.
   

If it doesn't work then try module 25 Immobiliser instead.
