parts
My A6 avant self locks if the only door opened was the tailgate ( opened withe the remote ) and it has been closed again. Ive opened the tailgate with the keys in my hand put the keys down inside the car to get something out of the boot and forgotten to pick the keys up before shutting the tailgate . You hear the click and your keys are locked inside. Ive now done it twice within 3 years and want to find a fix. Is it possible to turn off this safety feature ?. Parts Very glad to belong to the AA
shark_90
Not possible as far as I know. Does it do this if you actually unlock the car using the unlock button rather than the middle "tailgate" button? I don't think it does and I never use the tailgate button for exactly that reason. bazza_g
I was quite impressed with my Bimmer when I did exactly the same - opened the just boot then put my jacket (with keys in pocket) in the boot and shut it, boot locked. Just as I thought "oh sh!t" the car realised the keys were in the boot and without me doing anything the boot unlocked again!
PetrolDave
Not possible as far as I know. Does it do this if you actually unlock the car using the unlock button rather than the middle "tailgate" button? It does, if you unlock the car and don't open the drivers door within about 30 seconds then it relocks the car again.
shark_90
Ah, I thought it was any door (including the tailgate).
cruiser647
Any door. My Bora locks after 1 min if there is no more activity after unlocking other than opening & closing 1 door. And it cannot be turned off! As my garage found out - they had to 'get in to the car' somehow after a service! My A6 Avant does this, but it is after more than a few minutes. I have learnt NEVER to leave keys in the car and I can honestly say, I never do! That's what pockets are for.
