avantissimo
Over the last 10 day or so a creaking noise from the back end of my A6 (2008 3.0 Tdi Tip Quattro Le Mans Avant) has become more apparent. Its not a squeak or rattle or anything to do with loose items in the boot (I stripped everything out including the spare wheel to prove it) but something that's definitely part of the car. It seems to happen more at low speeds over bumps and more so when turning into sharp corners like a driveway. Its hard to describe a sound, but its definitely a creaking noise and not a bang or rattle. It sounds like its coming from the suspension or something but when the car is stationary and I rock it up and down and side to side, I cant re-create it. It's defnately getting worse and its driving me mad! I'm going to book it in to the steeler next week as its only got just over 13,000 miles on it (as per last weeks thread about tyre wear). Has anyone got any ideas what it might be?
speednut22
I have the same noise in the right rear of my 2008 Audi A6 sedan. The delae first thought it was the shock housing but after replacing the noise was still present. After discussing with Audi technical they discovered it was a problem with an apparent bad weld in the inner frame section in the rear of the car. It must be moving during body flex and creating the noise. They got an extensive (their words) repair procedure from Audi. They still have my car so i'm not sure of the correction. Tipex
It sounds like its coming from the suspension or something but when the car is stationary and I rock it up and down and side to side, I cant re-create it. Park on level ground, and do the same again, but leave the handbrake off, the rear brakes usually make the creaking noise you describe.
DAMIAN
Had the same problem in my 2007 A6 Avant, after much trial and error eventually tracked it down to the retractable dog guard. Removed the whole unit and problem went away.
allroadman
I had it happen on my company car, took a look and there is a TPL bulletin for it, so got it taken into a dealer and fixed. They put a special foam compound into a cavitiy in the rear section and that seemed to fix it, though sods law the day i got it back i had to hand the car back and get something else.
