[Audi A3/S3] Question about oil consumption for A3 1.4 and 1.8 TFSI

Hi,

as most of you might know, Audi's specifications state that the A3 might consume a certain amount of oil, and it has proven to be a problem in past models of the A3. I was wondering if anyone have had 'problems' with these engines consuming oil and if you have, how much oil? I am currently looking into buying this car (probably the 1.4TFSI sportback), but this is one issue that concerns me quite a bit!

Thanks for your time everyone :)

I have heard about VAG engines consumining oil at a considerable rate, but it's very rare IMO. Provided it's run in and brought up to running temp before hammering on the loud pedal I doubt you'll have any problems. I've never had to add oil to any of my VW's inbetween oil changes.

You never did have a 4.2 V8 did you Keith... :P

Hideous thirst for oil, between 1/2 and 1 litre every 3,000 miles - but that's normal. Apparently!

bto - the 1.4TFSI is the twin-charged engine - I've not heard any horror stories about massive oil consumption. Using 1.2 a litre of oil every 5,000 miles is within acceptable limits though.

Welcome to Tyresmoke, by the way +++
