[Audi A3/S3] A3 1.4 TFSI Vs Golf 1.4 TSI

Is the engine is the new 1.4 TSI Golf the same as the 1.4 TFSI in the new A3?

There's obviously the 'F' missing from the Golf, but I wondered whether they may be the same both being VAG cars or if not how do they differ?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but my knowledge of Engines is poor!

Yeah same basic units. There are differences depending upon versions with different power outputs.

I know VWracing ran one of these in the VW cup - 210bhp which I thought wasnt bad from a 1.4.

Thanks - I'm just thinking of the Standard 1.4 TSI Golf (not the GT) that's 122BHP Vs. the 1.4 TFSI A3 at 125BHP?

I have a 2.0 TDI (140 BHP) A3 and am looking at a new one and just wonder what the 1.4 TFSI is like? Unfortunately neither of my local dealers have a 1.4 to drive. There is about a £2K saving going for the 1.4 TFSI over the 2.0 TDI which is very tempting...

Petrol v diesel, so you'd lose the torque, but if you're not doing diesel miles, it's tough to justify the extra money.

How about a 2.0T A3?

Yeah I'd miss that but there is a big saving going for the 1.4 TFSI over the 2.0 TDI - I did think about the 2.0 TFSI but I'd like to keep cost down if poss and running costs also.

Is the 1.4 TFSI twin or single exhaust out of interest?

I drove a manual 1.4 TSI SE Golf (MK6) a few weeks ago. It's quite perky and responsive. I had just stepped out of the older more powerful 1.4 TSI Twincharger in the MKV Golf (140bhp model) and to be honest, there wasn't much difference.

One thing that struck me with the new VW 1.4 TSI is the torque. Under normal driving conditions it pulled extremely well and demonstrated in gear performance comparable to more powerful cars. This made for a relaxing drive without constantly having to change cogs to keep momentum in busy trafic - something which will be important if you are stepping out of a diesel. A very quiet engine too. If the old 140bhp Twincharger is anything to go by then economy will be good too as that engine was good for an average of 40mpg unless you ragged it.

Oh, visible twin 'zorsts too - good for polishing!

Thanks and yes constantly changing gear is a slight concern but glad to gear its not too much of an issue.
