We normally have our Climatronic set up to work manually.........believing it saves fuel.That is, not on AUTO nor ECON but selecting which vents we want open, temp setting and blower speed.

According to the VW handbook switching OFF ECON disables the cooling compressor.

Car was recently bumped on front....new rad etc fitted and they tested aircon etc .

Now the system seems to behave differently.I do stress SEEMS.

When switching from AUTO to ECON the compressor stops but then when going to Manual the compressor ( and fan) restart.

This is bizarre because the technician working on it only disconnected the power to compressor and the fan control plug.These cannot be refitted incorrectly.

If anyone can explain the Climatronic better than the basic handbook or shed any light on this situation I'd really appreciate it.

There is one other theory in that we are now noticing the noise of compressor when we didn't before.Yes system had to be repressurised BUT VW booklet says compressor should be off when in manual mode.
