Click on front nearside wheel

Morning everyone:D

My first post so a little background:

I am on my third 8, having started with the 2.8, then the3.7 and now a 2003 4.2 quattro sport. (:)nothing to touch these cars)

Got a bit of a problem on the front nearside wheel:confused:

Under load i.e. wheels on ground, I get a distintive single click when turning steering left to right or back.

Have checked all ball joints and all appear ok. CV boot is good and there appears to be no cv joint fault.

Noise is not brake related i.e. pads against pins under braking.

I seem to recall about May 2005 Audi admitted that there was an issue re this and produced a fix, new arm I think, but I cannot find anything about it.

Any and all help would be appreciated

Jeremy

Lo Jeremy,

Welcome to TSN. I too had a definite click on full lock to the left. As I was doing an engine swap and I had 3 advisories from my last MOT on the control arms I changed them all and the click has gone away.

The easiest non technical way to check the control arms is to get the car off the ground on ramps and turn the wheels while someone holds each arm in turn. When they feel the click that's your culprit.

I'd wager it's one of the top arms.

:)Afternoon all. Thought I would up date the post so that anyone else who encounters the problem will not have to reinvent the wheel!

It turned out to be the bearing.

Checked out the points raised on here but there was no issue. Went as far Audi to try and find the answer but they said they had no idea depite having fixed it once before. Checked with two other 8 owners, both of whom had the same problem but they had been fixed by Audi.

So went had a word with my local VW/ Audi independent who spent ages trawling for the answer.

Hope this has been of use.

Regards, Jeremy
